Back to the original topic......

I hope USM is fortunate to get a coack of his calibre. The football program has had a solid foundation created by Fedora, and it would be a great opportunity for both USM and Kirby to invest in one another for the next several years. Just wish USM was playing Penn State (9-3) instead of Nevada (7-5).

Rumor has it that Coach Smart has withdrawn his name from the USM job. Anyone hear anything about it?

According to ESPN.com, Kirby Smart has withdrawn from consideration for Southern Mississippi's head coaching vacancy after interviewing with Golden Eagles on Thursday.

Kirby is just practicing interviews right now I would think. USM would be one of the best mid-major jobs I can think of, but he's probably about the most sought-after assistant coach in the nation, about like Jimbo Fisher was a few years ago. He'll probably end up skipping a couple stepping stone jobs and going right into a fairly big program.

Sounds like USM is real tight with the budget right now. I don't think they wanted to commit to the staff budget that Smart thought was right. He will stay at Bama unless the right opportunity comes up. If he does take a better opportunity I look for Sunseri to be the new DC.

I've heard Sunseri's name come up for Pitt, I think.
