I've planted it in the past, but it's been several years and the weeds took it over. I ordered a bag from NWTF. First question, I have 160 acres, I was going to plant a yearly dedicated chufa plot. You think I'm better off planting a 1 acre plot, or planting 2 half acre plots separated by a couple of 40's. Secondly, what's the herbicide recommendation? You guys run any pre-emergent or just post emergent?

If you have many turkeys, an acre won't cut it.

Milestone works better than anything I've tried on broadleaf weeds. Clethodim seems like the most economical grass control, though Poast seems to work about as well if you already have some.

Cleth won't hurt the chufa?

No, Clethodim is a grass herbicide. Chufa is a sedge. Too much can damage it, but 10 oz works ok

Cleth is the truth on grass. PCP suggested it one summer for me to try. Cleaned the chufa right up

Clethodim/24-DB sprayed separately. Also, not sure about the Birmingham area, but in South AL you want to plant in early July. Just remember 4th of July target date and get them in the ground within 2 weeks of July 4th. Any earlier than that and you will fight weeds all summer. If you have time, run a disk through the field once in May and once in June to try to get rid of some of your seedbank and it will make a huge difference.
