I've noticed a lot of fruit trees blooming and leaving out this week. Another cold snap could be disaster for a lot of farmers.

I had some citrus pretty severely damaged by the cold last month, so this spell of 80°+ temps will go a long ways towards helping them recover, if they're going to. That said, there's most ALWAYS a late cold snap before Easter. I get home on 1-Mar, and cold's not in the forecast before then, so I'll just have to keep an eye out for it. Very unlikely that it'll be as bad as early January was, so if I'm diligent about protecting them, they won't be harmed any worse than they already are.

Other than citrus, I have a few apples that'll probably be blooming, they may or may not be damaged by a late frost, and the rest of my fruit would likely be just starting to split buds. Mostly the citrus I'm concerned about.

I'm not as worried about stuff blooming early as I am about tornadoes. It ain't gonna be pretty when a big cold front pushes through after weeks of ten degree above average temps. I hope I'm wrong.

I've been thinking alot like you lately. With these big wet weather fronts pushing through so early it has me worried about when the weather gets right. I hope I'm wrong but I got a feeling we will be in for some rough tornado weather this spring.

Well the GFS is showing a deep freeze coming the first week of March. The Atlantic oscillation is gonna switch from negative to positive or something like that.

The Pecans have not yet started budding. You cannot fool the Pecan tree's. We will get another hard frost or maybe even an ice storm before Easter.

Ours are still hanging 1/3 full of pecans. Never seen any hang on this late before. They are filled out, good pecans too. The last rain storm knocked a bunch down and I cracked some because I figured they werent' filled out, but they were.

FWIW, pecan trees are usually a real good natural indicator of the last frost. A few (could be 2 and might be 10) years ago, they were leafed out pretty good and got hammered on Easter morning. The leaves turned black on the trees. Only time I remember that happening.

I have 3 things I look for before I plant rice down here.
1- Pecan trees budding out
2- Start seeing bumble bees
3- people sitting on the ground when they are fishing. If ground is warm enough for them to sit on it it's warm enough for rice to grow.

Beware the Ides of..........April wink

April 7th or 8th 1987 I was at Mt. Carmel cemetery on Georgia Mountain for my Grandma Gullion's funeral/burial. It had been a very nice Spring for several weeks preceding this event and absolutely everything was budded out or blooming. The day of the funeral it was in the low 20s, spitting snow/sleet and an East wind of about 25mph. It was terribly miserable weather for a burial. And it killed all mast crops. No fruit, no nut trees produced, no acorns, no nothing.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Been whacking carpenter bees all day.

Noticed my blueberry bushes are trying to bloom too.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.
