Mobile Al,
Anyone ever held or shot one of these? I have shot the Pro hunters and they were extremely accurate but a bit heavy.. This little gun looks as fine as wine!!! Any feedback appreciated!

the importer is now in Bessemer, and I have held and "played" with them several times.
they have come out with a scout with a 22" non fluted barrel in 308. that is what i would like to have.

Absolutely love my pro hunter. Haven’t messed with the scout any but plan on going to steyr store in Birmingham and checking out their other options. Heard they were making some changes to the pro hunter this year from a gun guy at Simmons.

Is Simmons giving a better price than what you can get them from the sales floor of Steyr there in Bessemer? $599 for black and $649 for stainless is a very good deal.

Have you tried Google?

I have a Scout in .308 and a Pro Hunter in 7mm-08. By far the Scout is much heavier than the Pro Hunter, and both are extremely accurate as well.

I grew up using the pro hunter i .308 and have zero complaints. The scout is likely just as accurate with the right ammo and is lighter like you said. They are a very good value and a safe rifle for hunting. You can lock the bolt down on a live cartridge. It rotates the firing pin off of the cartridge.

Simmons is selling them for the same price as Steyr... $599 for black and $649 for stainless... I talked to a salesman at Steyr and he told me that if Simmons didn't have the caliber that I was looking for to call Steyr and they would send it over to Simmons...The 30-06 that my brother bought is the Pro Hunter Mountain with the 20" barrel, which I think would be somewhat equivalent to the Scout minus the built in bipods for a fraction of the cost

Does the scout not have a forward mounted scout scope configuration ? It used to, unsure if it's been changed.

I bought me and my son .308 scouts and we love them. Almost everyone I hunt with now uses one. I also have the .300 and 25-06 pro-hunter. 25-06 is my favorite to shoot. If you put the cushion on them you don't even know you pulled the trigger.
