I was wondering what is the value of a Marlin model 1895 45/70? It's a pre safety model made around 1980 condition is proablely 85 to 90%.

Need a little more info to be exact but the street value will be higher than book value right now. I would say at least $600 and up is what it should bring. You could probably sell it here tomorrow for $600 being 5hat it is a presafety JM gun. Value will go up depending on what model it is. Guide gun, ported, octagon barrel, etc..

550 buy it now on gunbroker new for a plain jane 1895.......They didn't port or offer the guide gun in 1980 and at its a 85 - 90 percent gun. . if you can sell it for 600 then you have done really well. Again , just my opinion..

Hang on to it Remington is in process to file Chapter 11. Based on the fact that they can't seem to correctly make more than 2-3 Marlin Models.... I am wondering what is about to happen.

JM guns might rise in price here shortly.

The only ones I see on gunbroker for $550 buy it now are not jm stamped nor are they pre safety. Not saying they aren't on there but I haven't seen them. All the jm stamped models buy it now priced are $699 and up. There is a 22" plain Jane 1980 presafety on the auction side with a startimg price of $849.

You should have no problem selling it for above $600.

I'd have to agree. The marlin big bores are pretty sought after and the fact its an older pre-safety makes it more-so in my opinion.

I may stand corrected guys. I knew the Winchesters went sky high but didn't know about the Marlin's. I need to research some more.

Gun Broker is a good place to get a deal on a new gun, but a very poor place to price check something with a subjective value. Mainly because nobody accurately grades the guns on there. Half are "Almost Unfired" and all are "Handling Marks". The difference in price between an 80% and 90% gun is significant. I don't see that reflected on Gun Broker. What I see is people who know little to nothing about what they are buying.

I could write a 2 page post on how many times someone has said on this very board..... gun should be priced at $XXX and I have within a month found one for much less.

What I'm saying is that GunBroker represents a "Got To Have It Now" price. That's not the price people who are willing to look for something are willing to pay or sell a gun for.

II don't think $600 is outrageous for an asking price. However if you want to sell it for $600+ put it on Gun Broker. However that's not the price I would expect to pay or receive in face to face transaction, brick and mortar gun store OR at a Gun Show.

There is nothing rare or unique about a 45-70 Marlin that's just the situation. That might change again if Marlin folds a second time.
