Buddy sent me this tonight. Had y’all seen it?

Delayed season dates on select WMAs

Spring turkey season opens March 15 for most Alabama counties. However, the start of turkey season will be delayed for research purposes on these WMAs: Barbour, J.D. Martin-Skyline, Oakmulgee, Lowndes, Choccolocco, and Perdido River.

The delayed season will run March 24 to April 30, 2018.

Most of the roads on skyline won’t be passable until the snow melts off early April anyway

I was all worked up about this, then looked at calendar and realized I'll be at the beach the first week anyway. So sounds good to me!

It makes me a "casual" turkey hunter.
I was eat up with it once upon a time.
Gonna try to go more this year.

What kind of research? Will that be known specifically, or just covered under “research purposes”?

Being phased in to get public used to a shorter season. Research data will probably show a positive effect on reducing gobbler kills and support it improving population numbers. Once this "data" is in hand, the reduced season will be applied to entire counties and so on.

This is all just my theory and effort to stir the pot a little.

I don't think anyone should be able to start a post on this forum that's going to be on the beach opening week. smile
