Are decoys worth buying for the spring season. If so what brand and setup would be a good start

Your call...I started without em and killed most of mine not using em...if you hunt a lot of places with fields, they can help...I have a shemobile and a jake from primos that work fine...sometimes I'll just put a single hen or none at all

If you hunt any fields or open woods then yes, they work great at giving the birds something to see and it brought in a great Tom for my dad last year. As to which kind. I have saved up and found good deals on avian X. But buy the most realistic ones you can afford. 90 % of time i run a jake with a feeding hen. Maybe a lookout hen also. Have tried a full strutter before. No turkeys saw him so have no idea if he will work better. Plan on using im this year with a fan from my turkey last year. But i have no decoy for the turkey I killed on public last year, cause in thick woods they seem to get in the way.

Only killed a hand full of birds in Bama with them due to the terrain associated with our WMA's. Wouldn't even consider going out of state without them especially terrain such as Kansas. AUwrestler is correct buy the best ones you can afford, I run Deception Decoys also recommend DSD and Avian as 2nd and 3rd runner up.

Years ago, I started with a big strutting gobbler decoy. It ran off way more gobblers than aided in one coming in. I switched to a hen and jake decoy and the results have been terrific.

Wish I had enough success with them to recommend but had more hang-ups than help using them in wrong scenarios... obvsiously folks "kill em on tv that way". If you're hunting hills and woods, my answer is "no"

If you can kill them without using decoys then don't buy any. I have had more birds hang up then I have had come to them.

I just picked up a flextone upright hen and feeding hen. They look pretty dang good considering their 1/3 to 1/2 price of some of the other higher end models. I’ve been using a carry lite hen and Jake the last few years with great success. These flextone dekes look a lot better than those carry lites. I like a single or pair of hens or a Jake and hen. I’ve not once called in a bird to a gobbler deke with a full fan. Never. Know others who have.

If you hunt fields a lot, don't worry with decoys.

I just order a funky chicken decoy from Cabelas. I had points I needed to use and a buddy of mine has one and recommended it. It looks goofy but thought I'd give it a try.

A buddy of mine bought some last year that were about 30-40 bucks a piece that looked just about as good as my avian-x's at half the price. I believe they were flextones.
