I am trying to tune my new bear take down , B riser with #3 limbs 45@28 , I draw 30” so I am at 50lbs @ my draw length according to my scale. I like a min of a 31” arrow and I use 125gr tips standard 14gr insert and Flemish twist fast flight string, I have several brands of 500 spine arrows on hand. 3 rivers recommended I stay with a 500 spine arrow, all the charts I look at recommended border line between 400/340 spine arrows. I have been testing some gold tips 500 spine, I cut them down to 31 and the bare shaft is still reading weak, I can visible see the arrow flying sideways in flight, fletched arrows seem to do ok. I have a 1/2 Dozen 500 black eagle vintage that 3 rivers said they would swap out since they are unused. I have played around with their spine calculator and it Varys between 400 and 350 as well, as does gold tips. not sure why 3 rivers recommend 500 spine arrows. What do y’all think? I have no 400 or 340 arrows on hand to test.

I would try a 400 spine, I cannot imagine that rig needing a 340 spine.
just to add to the confusion I shoot a Bear TD 60" and 52#(B riser) and I shoot GT 35/55s cut to 30", 200gr point, 100gr brass insert and they bareshaft like darts. Very high FOC. 570gr arrow total.

one additional problem to keep in mind is total arrow weight when putting carbon arras together because the shafts are so light. I like to stay around 10-12 grains per pound of draw weight.

Thanks guys, y’all are spot on, I think I’ll pick up a 400 spine arrow just to mess with until then I wil swap out the 125 gr tip for a 100 and see how that does but as Fred said I am having trouble getting the arrows up to the. 10gr per inch I want to shoot.

With that draw length and weight you’re going to have a hard time making 500s work. I would even say at that length arrow you’ll have a tough time with 400s but it would be doable with a little effort. I’d look more at 340 with a 125 and might actually buy some extra tips in 145-150 to test.

I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. Theres a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts. Ronald Reagan
