Just wanting to see if most people are crimping or not crimping their hunting rounds. I've read where most of the time in a bolt action there is no need to crimp but for something like an AR crimping is needed. I hunt with a bolt action exclusively in all the calibers that I'll be loading for.

I hunt with bolt action only rifles, so I don't crimp.

In most cases no crimp is needed, but there are sometimes exceptions. A magnum caliber might need some crimping just to keep the bullets from being driven back into the cases by the front of the magazine upon discharge.

No crimp on bolt guns

No crimping on any of my rifle rounds, even 5.56 for my AR. I chucked the expander ball in a drill and turned it on a sharpening stone to grind about .001 off the ball. This gives me more neck tension and keeps the bullet from shifting in the neck under the force of the bolt slamming closed on an AR. This is actually recommended by Sierra in their reloading guide.

I put a slight crimp on all my loads just after they come off the concentricity gauge
