I had push button in a 1988 Ranger. never had a problem with it. my Toyota now works great.

Just have to ask....... was this a Chevy that gave you this problem? It seems to always be a Chevy that does this. Some of the older ones even have the shifter on the floor, but it's still auto hubs that don't work.

Never really heard of anyone having this problem from other brands. at least not as a regular thing.

Lots of chevys have push buttons, on the left side of the dash.
My last company truck was a 2013 F150 and it had a knob in the middle of the dash, under the radio.

I'm glad my wife is a school teacher. She'd fire me if we worked together. I understand about your toys and such. I've got a perfectly good boat at the shop that I'm having to replace the carpet in. Got 10 guys up there and not a single one of them has taken on that project themselves.

It's a chevy Tahoe it doesn't matter though really if it's push button or turn knob or lever in the floor these, it's all electric and that's the problem. I want linkage and lever to the case and locking hubs. I've got a 76 Chevrolet 2500 that's rusted past gone that's about to donate the needed parts. Front and rear axle and springs , transfercase, linkage and lever. Problem m solved

I'm not a fan of all the electronic stuff but it sure is convenient. My runner has auto hubs and so far it has been flawless

Adapting 76 front end to a late model Tahoe is gonna be a trick.
I'd like to see the redneck engineering when you get that done.

Weld the spring hangers to the frame and modify the steering linkage a little, it's not a big deal really. I've done several chevys and toyotas over the years

It's about as cheap to do that as buy a lift kit for the late model stuff, and better.
It's pretty common for crawlers and such.

The electronic switching into 4WDH and 4WDL has been flawless so far in my 2012 Nissan Frontier. It's nice to just turn the switch on and off as I need it.

The pushbutton Rear Dif lock is another matter. I seem to have to turn the steering wheel back and forth, roll in reverse, etc or some combination to eventually get the rear dif to lock in. I rarely use that feature but when I need it I NEED IT! If anyone has tips on making it lock in more reliably I'm all ears.

I understand what you mean, but at the same time, we are talking about the type most likely to have an issue here. I have owned Chevy in the past and loved it. no hate here on the brand. I also agree that straight mechanical linkage is the most reliable (though the least convenient). I am just saying that many electronic units are absolutely reliable and I would trust them.... Chevy just doesn't make them.

I have seen mechanical linkages give out too btw.

That ride reminds me of the mid 70's Hoggin. Not many around had a 4wd. Most had 2wd with big mudders on the back. It was as much fun getting to our stands as the hunt itself.

I worry about this on my 05 Tundra, it has always worked great when I use it but it is old... I wish I could change it to manual 4x4

My 92 yota looks like a little motor boat sometimes. My priblem is my motor will short out due to water, for bout 30 min, then when it dries up it cranks an runs fine. But its only done that once an i drove it through a dang sho nuff mud hole on a management area

An 05 ain't old! That's newer than most of my vehicles. They just get to riding good at 100,000 miles.

Oh I know it has 285,987 miles as of this morning, I have never trusted the electronic 4x4 stuff, I will say I have never had one not work but I still don't trust it....

Just old fashioned I guess, I still wish they made cars and trucks with no electronics at all....
