Since both of you shoot slug guns. I have a question for you. I always wanted a slug gun but can't for the life of me buy one since I have other rifles and don't have restrictions where it's slug gun only. My question is what purpose did you buy yours for? I'd like to have a savage 220 or 212 but shells are expensive and I don't see it getting used more then my other rifles. Can you shine some light on them for me No way I’d buy a 12 ga slug gun again! If I ever have another, it will definitely be a 20 again. Robinhedd

I shoot an 12 gauge A-bolt slug gun for my primary deer gun. My supply of Winchester Dual bonds is running low. What slugs do you have experience with?
The Dual Bonds are accurate enough, but they separate and do not penetrate all the way through.
How do the Remington Accu-tips perform What about the Hornady SSTs? Winchester Partition Golds or Federal Trophy Copper? I carry my slug gun sometimes depending on where im at. I wouldnt buy anything but an accutip. I have killed many deer with them and they are always DRT.

I shoot 2.75” SSTs in my 12 ga 1100 slug gun and they have been accurate and plenty deadly. A friend shoots 2.75” Accutips in his 12 ga Browning Gold slug gun and seems satisfied with them for accuracy and lethality.

no way is ever buy a 20 ha slug gun again. IMO, all slugs suck. So I’m shooting the biggest piece of sucky I can get that group. 3” accutips work great in my browning (and 3 of my pals)

That A-bolt should shoot the Partition Golds better than anything on earth. I believe the PG's are a better slug than the Dual Bonds anyway (have shot and killed with both).
I am the worlds biggest hater of AccuTips. They shoot like a laser beam (prob won't find better accuracy than them), but they are TURRIBLE----I mean extra super disgusting awful----on game. It's like swinging your purse at the deer. NO knockdown power. I have just spent the better part of the past two weeks trying to find ANYTHING that my Savage 220 will shoot besides the AccuTips. I will NOT, repeat will not, ever shoot another AccuTip in my life.
I started a thread about AccuTips on the private Facebook page for the military base I hunt and got almost 200 replies, most in agreement with me about the killing impotency of the AccuTips. I'm not the only one. I shot my last deer with them on the day after Christmas this year. 3 shots in a place the size of your hand, complete pass-thru, in the shoulder crease, all within 70 yards, and he barely even acted hit. Literally walked/trotted 100+ yards. That was the 2nd buck in less than a year that has acted EXACTLY like that, both with 3 shots dead center of the chest/shoulder. When you hit them with Winchester PG's, it's like you dropped a pallet of anvils on 'em!!!!!!!

Your A-bolt will probably shoot multiple different slugs, but every Browning I've ever shot especially loved the Partition Golds. My H&R Ultra would shoot the same hole 10X in a row with them. Oddly, it didn't like the AccuTips My H&R nor my Savage 220 will shoot any Hornady slugs whatsoever, it's like with with either of them every other shot was a 6" flyer.....all over the target. I wanted to shoot those new Superformance slugs BAD, but no go.

I bought two boxes of Lightfield Hybred Mag 20's (3") over the weekend, going to shoot them this week sometime. I've never shot a Lightfield at all, always thought they were "cheap", but these new ones seem pretty high tech.

This is a good thread. I have a Winchester 1300 with a rifled bore. I got it in a trade and haven’t shot it yet. I want to put a small power scope on it but don’t know what would be good one for shotgun use. I tell ya, go with a bigger scope like you would on a rifle. I use 4-12x40 and a 3-9x50 (both BDC) on my slug guns. These new slug guns with these fast sabots will shoot 200 yards, so I want scopes that will do that job too. I can hit a gallon milk jug @ 200 yards more shots than not.

I had a mossburg 695 that shot the hornady sst really well. It killed on one end and wounded on the other. I sold it and got a savage 220 and I love it. It shoots the hornadys ok but it really likes the accutips. It doesn't like winchesters though. Couldn't hold a 6 inch group at 100 yards with them. As long as you're not hunting clear cuts or power lines you really don't get many shots over 200 yards.
