A real mechanic would run a compression test on each cylinder and find the average THEN check with your camera then pull the heads if needed. Besides the head gasket leakin on combustion side, might be an intake gasket leaking too but doubt it. You called that guy an internet french model cause that motor has no distributor. gun grin

Just for the record I would use the camera before a compression check, why guess after what I can see but long before that I would check for dirty oil, engine codes then do a data scan and a cylinder contribution test then look in the cylinder for signs of water, excessive oil, burnt valve, burnt piston or cylinder wall damage then a compression test incase a valve seat that I can't see it the issue.

That's kinda what a real mechanic would do there Jake, just in case your wondering.
Maybe that diagnostic tree will help in the future.

I don't know what's wrong with the truck I haven't laid hands on it or diagnosed it, most of what's been listed here could be the cause along with several other things that have not been mentioned.

Come on now, you know we all can fly jet aircraft and rebuild the space shuttle.

I think there has been a lot of good advice on things to check no doubt.
I don't mind giving advice on how to do the testing or options afterward and will answer any direct question to the best of my ability, that's how I ruled out the distributor, but today's engine is a complicated electronic/mechanical computer and I am not the best at some of the late model diagnostics, but I do pay some guys that are close to the top if not on it.

We currently have 2 of these in use.

Yup...I used to rebuild older Chevy and Fords with my eyes closed. Now, I sometimes open the hood and just stand there scratching my head. I am able to change my plugs and plug wires though...Oh yeah and the oil pressure switch "the book" says will take 3 hours labor to get to and replace and put back together, I did in 30 minutes grin

If we all show up, we could probably swap the whole engine as fast as a NASCAR pit crew!
