Greetings ALdeer. First post here. I'm leasing a tract of land with a buddy and we're both self taught deer hunters. His son, (12) has killed the only 2 deer in the 3 years that we've had the place. We are primarily hunting two fields where the previous club had stands. Are we wasting our time hunting the fields twice a day, and instead should be rotating our location in the hardwoods on trails? Thanks in advance for the advice.

you already answered your question. Ya'll have killed 2 deer in 3 years hunting the way you do. Time to change because the current plan ain't working. Be aware of the wind direction(sometimes hard because it changes...a LOT) never hunt when the wind is wrong for a stand. Scout hard just after this season ends, locate trails, bedding areas, any oak trees that dropped and deer fed under them. File this alll away for next year. Put some ladder stand up this summmer where you found sign, always keeping the wind in mind.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I like catching them on trails whether it is leading to the plots/fields or just in the woods. They are more comfortable on their travel routes in my experience.

What I’m seeing are deer going to field right at dusk but have seen way more deer it the woods above my fields

In my very short experience, this is true, even on a small plot in the middle of the woods. They are just more wary in the open than they are in the thick stuff. Doesn't mean the fields are useless. If you can watch where they come out from the woods and into the fields (or use cameras) to locate their obvious points of ingress you'll be able to start pinning them down.

Depends on how much property you have. If you've only got 20 acres, you need to be careful scenting up the woods. If you've got a decent amount of property, then I'd definitely start mixing it up some. Really all depends on access, what's around your property, how your property lays and your ability to control your scent. Always ask the question, can I get in and out without bumping deer and them knowing that I was there. Do not ever hunt a stand on a bad wind. If the wind is wrong, hunt someplace else or not at all. Also remember that pressure can absolutely ruin a good piece of property. Based on your post there are at least 3 of you hunting it. Does it get rested for decent periods of time? This is my thoughts along with past experience as well.

Deer will pattern you in a heartbeat and that is probably what they have done...I love hunting the woods because I have really only once or twice killed a buck out of a greenfield...Remember like the others have said, hunt the wind and hunt smart...don't go walking through the land or what not...if it's a bad wind, DO NOT HUNT THE STAND

Honestly, no one really knows...just hunt when you can, but hunt the wind...I like bouncing around to diff spots, but I tend to save the really good spots for around the rut when the wind is perfect, and it really does make a difference in sightings and all. We also started to no shoot does on the green fields, and it has already made a big difference this year in the first year of doing it.
