I'm looking into getting a Merkel Helix. Does anyone have one? What are your thoughts on this gun? Is there anything you dislike or like about it?

I do not Have one but I have done a whole bunch of reading and researching them. The Merkel RX Helix is an awesome gun with the Old World quality You would expect coming out of a German firearm manufacturer and Merkel is one of the Very best. The RX Helix has a lot of fantastic engineering put into this weapon. The draw backs are the expense of the Extra caliber barells You might want. The RX Helix is Really designed for the European Hunter were One rifle will do it all. I came to the conclusion that Even though I really, really want an RX Helix the Browning BAR Safari 2 along with some of the other offerings in Semi-Auto rifles are better for Us Americans. If I had plenty of Extra money laying around I would For sure Get a Merkel RX Helix.

I had a Merkel in .300 win. Mag and although it was beautiful and expensive I will never buy another one. I shot it one day and something happened and I could not work the bolt. I dont remember exactly what the gunsmith said happened but I got rid of it just as soon as I could.

The reason many German gunmakers have made switch barrel rifles is due to oppressive European gun laws which restrict the number of guns a person may possess. Just like the upper receivers on AR's, the barrel is not considered a "gun" and by using this design, you can have multiple calibers.

Thank you to the NRA, defenders of our constitutional right to keep and bear multiple arms.

Sorry, I had the KR1 but if the rifle you are talking about has the same action I would not pay that kind of money for it. This is the only bolt gun I have ever had any problem with.
This one looks identical to the one I had only mine had a Zeis scope.
