I keep telling them to leave the faucets dripping, and every time I go back in the kitchen they have it cut off?

why would you leave the kitchen faucet dripping is it going to get below 32° inside your house? I can understand exterior silcocks if there not the newer frost proof kind but ive never understood leaving a faucet dripping in a warm house. Ive worked maintenance for over 10 years and never seen a burst pipe inside a heated home from freezing.

Because it's getting in the teens at night and leaving a faucet dripping inside keeps the water moving from the meter all the way through the lines which makes it alot less likely to freeze vs sitting still..Its not the lines inside, it's the lines under the house that freeze and bust..Thought everyone knew that.

My God, you've been in maintenance for 10 years and you don't understand why keeping water flowing will prevent it from freezing? Ever seen a waterfall freeze? Granted, they will freeze if it's cold enough, but we don't get that around here.

We got a job last night of a pipe burst in Greystone Legacy and that joker bursted on the top floor in an unfinished attic space, and boy did it do some damage. The kitchen on the main level has custom made cabinets and they will all have to come down. It then went into about a 2500 sq foot basement. We got 3 pipe calls between 5-6 PM yesterday.

Our kitchen sink is on the north wall and a few times over the years a really cold north wind can freeze the pipes in the brick wall. We have had no water at the kitchen sink a few times. This week I put a piece of plywood leaning against that wall and have had no problems.

My wife is the last to leave the house in the mornings. When I get home for lunch most days their is 6-15 lights on, a couple of tv's, etc. It chaps my ass to no end. I mean, how damn lazy do you have to be to not flip a switch.

they ain't turning lights off or shutting doors. You can't train em to either so it ain't happening. Some sort of genetic deficit in the gene thingy. Mine pushes a door tilll it touches but not clicks the bolt in. I find the utility room door to the outside open at least once a week no matter the temp. Walk down the hall and hit a coldasallhell spot...check the utility room door and throw all the yard cats out.

I got lucky with mine, once I married her I didn't need "Google" anymore, she knows everything, she would make a heck of a driver's Ed teacher too, she tells me when to turn my blinker on, when I'm speeding or driving too slow, doesn't need directions for doing anything or going anywhere!!

When mine dont turn the lights off or lock a door i say politely hey you left a light on....just reminding her not to leave em on. Boy she gets mad that i say it sometimes

Even Niagara Falls froze over in 1911 I think.
If your waterline is buried beneath the frost line, as it should be, then it won't freeze.
Of course, if you're on a crawl space, that's likely where it will freeze.
