If you had to choose a backup weapon for hog hunting and you were limited to 9MM or 45 ACP, what would you choose?

Would you choose ball ammo or hollow points?

.45 acp, because shooting twice is just stupid.

Methinks, for what you're wanting, I'd go with either a soft point or ball over hollow point.

45 because it's hard to shoot accurately when squating to pee...use big heavy hollow points IF they cycle perfectly.

I would carry which one you feel more comfortable with. both are capable of stoping a pig in close quarters. I've carried a .40 for 9 years now and I've used it twice in really hairy situations especially bow hunting. I've emptied a full quiver twice on hogs on the ground and I was very thankful I had my pistol. one of the times I was in thick palmettos shot 3 pig's and a big sow kept running by me looking for her piglets that had scattered.
Better safe than sorry !

I would pick a short barrel 12 gauge with buckshot.

Shoot a pig with a 9mm and you'll just piss him off.
I shoot a 45 because I don't like to shoot twice.
I've killed deer and hogs with a 230 grain HP. Also have some 185 grain lead ball ammo, killed two deer with those.

I've killed hogs with my .22 pistol, .357, and .40. So which ever on is more comfortable to you. 99.9% of the time unless a hog is wounded or cornered it will run away. Very seldom will one charge and most times it is a bluff charge. Hearing a gun shot of any caliber will turn a hog. I would go with what ever is more comfortable and easier to pack around.

I personally carry my S&W Shield .40. It's more comfortable for me to carry than the other two long barrel pistols.

All of those are more lethal than a 9mm.
The 9mm is the most useless round ever made.

Thats about the same medication I give them. 454 cas. Loaded with hard cast 45 lc flat nose. Its just a hammer on pigs . I just shoot them if I have too with it like if they are piled up in corners of traps going over sides. It just drops them,,something about that lead at 1,000p
Fps it just makes mush out of pigs..and its no worse then a 38 spl on recoil.

probably 45 because. 2 years ago while dog deer hunting. The dogs had a big sow bayed up. I shot her 5 times with 9mm hp's and she ran off.
