I know I'm late (very busy with the holiday festivities) posting this hunt but still wanted to share. My oldest son ( turns 6 next Tuesday) joined me for an afternoon hunt on Sunday 11/19. We got settled into a shooting house around 2:15 overlooking a hardwood bottom to our front & right, with hardwoods to our back, and a greenfield to our left. I had pics of several shooter bucks in the area but was hunting one in particular (I posted him several weeks back in the trail cam pics forum titled "Wide 9"). The weather was cool & calm with acorns raining down. Finally around 3:50 we saw our first deer, a young doe, feeding in the greenfield. We were watching her feed until 4:15 when we spotted a group of 3 does come feeding from our right into the hardwood bottom in from of us. About 20 minutes later, from the direction the group of does had come, I hear a limb snap and a deer walking. I begin glassing through the thick underbrush and see nothing but antlers! As he steps into a clearing about 60 yards I let the ole Remington do its job! He's hit hard and goes down about 50 yards from the stand. Definitely thankful for this hunt with my son and the privilege to harvest this great buck! From the pic, you would think he killed the buck! My middle son was sitting with my dad and got to experince getting the deer out of the woods and loaded up. Great to have your son there, makes it special!
I bought an ATV to get to my hunting area, now half the fun of hunting is the ride in and out.
