I know but I guess I just never seen anyone cut it off like that usually cape it out and let taxidermist do that.

Taxidermist probably cut the horns off and let him get a couple of pics before it went in the freezer for six months. Like Troy said thats how a taxidermist cuts the horns off.

That's how you do it if you know how to truly cape one out all the way. Or, if you don't want your antlers to go missing. Hold on to them until the taxi tells you he is ready for them!

I don't think the horns go in the freezer. I usually see them hanging up drying while they wait to be mounted.

Yea maybe that is what happen I guess that would explain why it looks so clean also. I still think I would have took my pics before we cut them off.

Just talked to the guy in the pic. He did not kill the deer. Said another guy killed it in Forkland and that it did measure 190"!

He probably had the taxidermist cape right then and wanted to take the horns with him. I know I did on my biggest. He needs to put something between the antlers to maintain the spread during the drying period. IMO.

Free range deer killed in Greene Cty across the river from Demopolis after Thanksgiving on +/-200 acre private tract bordering timber company and WMA land. Hunters name is Jason. Guide I know for one of the big lodges up there has put his hands on the rack and says it push 180 but doesnt think it will make 190. Two mass measurements on the right side are better than 9". There is also an 12" kicker on the left side running parallel to the main beam. 3rd buck that I know of in last 5 years to come from that general area scoring better than 165".

I've scored a lot of bucks and looking at the pic and having the info from my buddy on the kicker and mass, I can get him to the high 170's. My buddy did not have a tape with him when he saw the rack or we would have a # +- 1/8". He's handled and killed some monsters and if he says 180 you can pretty much take it to the bank. Somebody has to have semi-officially scored him by now.

I work with the guys best friend, I'll see if I can find out any thing else tonight. He snapped the pics I posted and looked over the deer, he didn't think it was 190 but was close.

Jason Haynes of Marengo County killed this hoss of a buck over Thanksgiving weekend. This is a "free range" buck killed in the Black Belt of Alabama. Jason preferred not to disclose the exact location of the kill. He said that he was hunting another really big buck (but not this big) that he had photos of on a game camera. He did not not this bruiser was in the world until the day he killed him. The buck weighed 220 lbs., sported 15 points, and green scored 190 3/8.
