If my daughter continues this trend I'm going to get her a Sherman tank. Was taking her car in Monday to have the door fixed then she moved over in someone's lane Tuesday and has a new dent in the rear quarter panel. slap

LOL. My niece was given a brand new car and totaled it the day it was given on her 16th birthday.

I should have been on the county payroll. I kept the ditches clean in my area. Glad all that stuff is behind me now.

Let me start by saying it all could have been worse but let me sum up Dwayne’s first two years driving. He took out a mailbox (new windshield and minor damage), blown engine (replaced with brand new motor), totaled the truck when he went through a fence, replaced the truck, gets rear ended ( minor damage) , and last but not least the truck catches on fire! All that within about 18months and folks wonder why I’m bald.

The secret to a long marriage is to keep on dating, just as you did before marriage. We have "date night" once a week.
Hers is Saturday, mine is Thursday.

The only time a married woman gives those is if your not married to them!

G/H did you take her phone away before she left? You know how kids today are tethered to them and can't resist. Glad she hasn't been hurt.

That’s one of many reasons why a 16 year old shouldn’t get a brand new car.

Yup. A safe 5 year old car is a much better choice.

Another big to consider is insurance can vary significantly between different cars.

My son has totaled a ‘98 4Runner, an ‘03 Corolla and someone hit him and totaled an ‘01 Mazda Protege.

There's apps you can install to make sure of that.

My daughter will be driving soon and I'm absolutely terrified to let either of my kids behind the wheel. It's usually the other people you have to watch out for now.

Sonny have you looked into surplus military vehicles? Maybe an armored humvee?

We live 35 minutes from school. Drives down 85 everyday. Makes me nervous

I'm sure many here will disagree but kids are better off vehicles with modern safety features.

A 5 year old Camry is safer than my 1986 2.5 ton hunting truck.
Safety is technology not size/weight.

I bought my son a 2000 gmc thinking bigger is better. Well my wife let him take her car the 2016 we are making payments on to Cullman. Well he pulled out in front of someone at a three way stop. Had a dent where the backdoor and quarter panel meet about the size of a paper plate. It broke the passenger rear wheel at the axle all the airbags came out on the passenger side. I think State Farm paid out around 12 grand to fix it. Fortunately it was on a back street with 25 mph speed limit and he wasn’t hurt. I’m still waiting to see what it’s going to do to our insurance rates.

I work a lot of crashes and it seems the Toyota cars and the Honda cars hold up better. I've seen some that were in bad crashes and it was hard to tell what kind of car it was but the passenger compartment was mostly undamaged. The Honda Civic is one that I hardly ever see much damage to passenger compartment. Just my observation.

My youngest boy had a 96 Camry until last month...he was driving down the highway at +/- 65 mph, and a girl pulled out in front of him. He T-boned her without even having the opportunity to hit the brakes. Crumple zones on the Camry worked as designed...it was smashed all the way back to the firewall with no intrusion whatsoever into the cabin, which was a good thing, as Tra is a big boy at 6'1" and almost 300 lbs! Car was beyond totaled, and Tra walked away sore, but that was it. The other driver was lifeflighted to Pensacola, and is expected to make a full recovery, as well.
