The cedar shakes go up to a 1x6 continuous piece of cedar trim, then I installed a 2x2 piece of galvanized drip rail on top of that, then I installed the corrugated tin over the top of that.

So the drip rail wraps over the top of the trim board that's laid horizontally?

It's an "L" shape with the bottom of the "L" sticking out over the trim and slightly bent down and the vertical part of the "L" nailed to the sheathing and covered by the vertical galvanized corrugated tin.

A picture could have saved me about a thousand words there... grin

Well... She and I are very proud of it. Building something yourself has it's own sense of satisfaction.

The fact that we are paying for it as we go along and accumulating no debt makes it even better because we will be able to retire there debt free.

Almost done with the outside finally. After several weekends of doing other stuff, vacations with family, bad weather, etc... We finally goat a lift rented for a long weekend and I was almost finished when the batteries on the lift ran out. It's charging now, so I should be able to finish up tomorrow morning.

I tell you, backing that lift up in between all these trees was like threading a needle with a slinky while looking through a mirror.

Here's the finished side:

I still need to paint the siding green. Mrs. Irish has been busying herself painting the doors a nice red color.

Here's the unfinished side. This is as far as I got before I ran out of batteries.

Looks great and a great view also.

Thanks for the nice comments.

I'm sitting here typing this in my tiny cabin with this crappy electric heater drinking some hot coffee and freezing my ass off thinking what a dumbass I was for not insulating this thing.

Not looking forward to getting up on that lift this morning. I'm glad I don't do construction work for a living anymore. Hats off to all the folks who have to get out and work in all kinds of weather everyday.

Here's steaming hot cup of coffee to you...

Oh hell naw! grin The cedar is just getting a coat of clear sealer on it.

See the horizontal siding? That's LP Smartside. We're painting it sort of an olive green. It's tan right now, but that's just the factory primer.

Finally ended up finishing yesterday. Had to take the lift back to United Rentals in Rome, Ga. Shout out to those guys. I was able to get the lift on Monday at lunch and didn't return it until 1600 their time and was only charged for one day. Great folks to deal with.

I over estimated on my corrugated tin and ended up on the total job with about 9 pieces of 12' and 4 pieces of 8' left over. Just loaded them back up on the truck and returned them to Lowe's no questions asked. The Lowe's in Ft. Payne is a good Lowe's. They are always helpful there. Great service.

So here's the finished pics of the outside. I'm tempted to spray some vinegar or something on it to oxidize it a little and take the shine off. I want it to start looking weathered.

Still trying to figure out what I want to do to the bare concrete block foundation.

Thanks for the updates - it looks great. For the blocks - I have always been partial to the brown rubble stacked stone.

Stucco those blocks, then seal/paint them whatever color you want.
