Hot water heater is in the garage. At first, having it upstairs was awesome but then you start thinking about the potential disasters that could happen and cost thousands to repair. $900 doesn't sound bad, but 3k sounds horrible

If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

The most expensive part will probably be running the drain unless there is it a drain pipe of some kind already right there. Even at that, when I did remodel work about 15 years ago, I paid a plumber around $1,200.00 to move a drain pipe in a slab about 4'-5'. They'll have to cut out the drywall to put the pipe behind it, cut the slab to put the drain pipe under it and fill it with gravel then repair concrete. The wall will have to core drilled for the pipe to go through then the yard trenched to tie into another drain pipe.
If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.-Mark Twain

One thing to keep in mind also is even if you have drain and water close, you want to make sure the drain is properly vented..
Sure, you can dump it into the closest drain but depending on what's above it, it could pull the trap dry on the washing machine drain as something washs by it.. A toilet for instance. Last thing you want is to move all of this and then get a chit smell because its not hooked up right.
Get a plumber, not just some guy that does plumbing

Is the garage attached or detached? If its going to be a long run of water pipe and 220 is already there Id might look at just running a cold and put in a small tankless water heater.
