what was your interest rate 15%

I will have to look to tell you for sure but I want to say 11%

Wow. I would say if you have an 11% car loan your credit is already crap anyway. No offense, but I don't think it is going to get any worse.

This is why I drive a 20 year old truck and take good care of it.
But I've been there, and I sympathize.
First things first. Call the finance company and tell them your situation. Ask them for options, trust me they do not want your truck. They will work with you.
Then do as others have suggested, detailing and a real good advertisement.
Take a hit if have to, try to roll the balance into a signature note.
Or even advertising a "take up payment" offer. The buyer can meet you at the financial office and you just sign over the note.

Lordy, I would look to refinance it ASAP.
I recently used Rategenius and reduced my interest rate by 50%.

You've been given a very viable route.

Step 1 refinance.
Step 2 Pull equity from the house that has doubled in value.
Step 3 Learn from the mistake.

This happened to me years ago. Some people think you just give it back and thats it.
I owed something like 12k on a truck and let it go back. They sold the thing for 4k
Sent me a bill for the balance and they dont offer payments for that. I didnt pay it so they garnished my wages 33 percent until it was payed off. So what i ended up paying for the truck and had no truck. It took me years to get my credit right and i will keep it that way.
If it were me i would find a part time job and make the payment. Doesnt take much to make 600 a month. You will regret letting it go back.

Step 4. Get rid of that truck and note asap.

Dang man.. Look, I'm not trying to be a smartarse, but there's some smart folks here. Maybe next time you're thinking about a big decision run it by the forum....
Sounds like you made a couple bad decisions and are about to make another one. Do you know an accountant you could go talk to? It would be worth a couple hundred bucks to get some good advice. Good luck to you

What I meant was, after you deal with the immediate situation, then get rid of it. If you end up using home equity, get enough to pay it off, then sell it and pay back most or all of the equity loan.
Make debt free your goal.
Debt free is stress free.

I wouldn't borrow money on my home ,if you run into more trouble later you might end up living in a cardboard box.i would run it off a cliff before I went that route.

Good. Talk to an accountant or maybe even where you bank talk to one of the VPs or something. Like someone said, you may could do an equity loan and get some stuff squared away. It might not be a bad idea to call whoever you've got the truck financed with and just explain your situation. They may be willing to work with you instead of going thru a repo situation. My Mom passed away and had a note on a car thru Bank of America. I low balled them an offer to buy it/pay it off and they accepted. Worth at try

steelman, stop beating yourself up. You obviously realize the situation and want to make a better decision on it, that's a plus! Now just get busy on trying to sell it.
I think you have a good chance on selling it, and learning from it. You have been given some great advice here!

Oh yeah, no way in heck that I'd borrow money on my home for a vehicle! In my opinion, that would really be a bad move! You have a house to live in, but you obviously can't live in the truck. Just my opinion, good luck on the sell of your truck, Robinhedd

Take it to Prichard, pay a brother a few hundred bucks to get rid of it and claim it got stolen,on a serious note,id call every dealership around and see what they would buy it for and take a loan from my 401k if you have one or just get a loan from the bank and pay the difference, that truck should sell for low to mid 20's

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet was letting someone take over payments the legal way. I've personally never done it but I've bought 2 trucks from people looking to get out from under one. They had them listed for sale or take over payments. I went to my bank with a letter from their lender with the pay off amount an they owed on the truck. My bank handled everything. He got out of a payment I got a truck i wanted ata decent price. The other truck I bought like that the guy owed $4500 on a 99 tacoma 4x4 in 2008. He paid $9,000 for it of a car lot and had some stuff come up that he couldn't afford it anymore so I met him at his lender and paid it off the lender and him signed the paper work and the title and I left with it. It would be another option if you could find some one that's looking for one just transfer the note into their name

I’m going out on a limb and saying if he had a 11% car note, there isn’t any chance in hades that he gets a personal loan with no collateral or even qualifies for a home equity loan.

Colbie, listen to the advice in this thread. Don’t let the bank take the truck and don’t borrow on your home. Sell it! Sell it for a loss if you have to! With Christmas coming up look into part time at Home Depot, Sams, Costco or walmarks until you get back on track. If you need some meat tell Josh or Josh and see if they will shoot a doe for you. I’m sure they would and I will first chance I get. Hang in there and Good luck!
