I have been wanting to go on a hunt on public ground out so state for a long time but haven't pulled trigger but that is fixen to change. My question is where do y'all stay at hotel, campground, etc. Just courious trying to get a plan together and make the best decision. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I do both. Typically I will camp if I'm by myself, get a hotel if others go with me. Even a cheap hotel adds up to be pretty expensive when there's no one to split it with.

Best advice I can give is to research your butt off. Print maps, look at topo, etc. make sure you pick the right dates during the rut, and take as much time off as possible. 10 days would greatly enhance your chances over 3-4 days. Get as far away from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida as you can. The further you get from the south, the less crowded it will be.

Hotel we stay at has a hunger rate of 43$ a night. We have taken a 5th wheel before but divide that rate by two and it just doesn’t make sense.

Friend of mine I hunt with in Randolph county goes to Kentucky every year. He said with 6 people going it comes out to around $600 per person for lodging, food, fuel, including out of state license. I'll try to find out what part of the state they go to. Don't think it's more than an hour off I-65 though.

Not sure if your interested in a wma hunt ,but land between the lakes in west Kentucky is huge. You can camp at several campgrounds or get a back country camping permit. I think it's $30. For the year.
