Good luck. It's sort of a pain the ass for registering kids. (they ought to make it the other way ... less of a pain in the ass for kids, not more).

To me, when they are implementing a new system like this, they ought to conduct focus groups with different user segments to determine if there are any flaws that need fixing the next year. These little problems will rise to the top during those discussions and can be fixed before the next year. They will eventually get it figured out, these first few years will just be problematic evidently,

Agree 100%. We are supposed to be getting the young kids interested in hunting and they make it as hard as they can to do it. I've been chasing my tail all night. To get a CID # they want the HELP #. To get a HELP # requires a CID #. Round and round I go.

Most of the "I think" info above is incorrect or, if it is correct, the app won't let you proceed with that info. I've been fighting it all evening, trying to get what my son needs for the weekend. Seriously one of the worst designed apps I've ever seen. My father-in-law told me that Walmart told him they can get him a H.E.L.P. number as long as I have his SSN. So, I guess I'll be going there tomorrow to get one printed out for him. If that doesn't work, then I guess me and my 12 year old will be outlaws AGAIN this year. Dumbest system ever. If people from the DCNR truly DO monitor this site, do everyone a favor, pull your head out of your ass, and stop making it so hard to go hunting. I saw a poll on FB a week or so ago about why I thought hunting license sales were down. I don't believe they are down, or at least to the point they think. I think people are tired of bulldoodoo numbers and are just hunting without them.

You don't need CID # for child you just need H.E.L.P #.
Go to Outdoor AL license purchase, enter the child's birthday, then press continue. At next page select the H.E.L.P. License privilege then press continue. When done you will receive a HELP # for the child that can be used to report any harvest to gamecheck. Paper harvest reports can be printed out. I've done this for both my kids.

I did this yesterday for my 8 year old:

1) Go here
2) Click on PURCHASE A LICENSE ONLINE
3) Enter state and birthday, press continue
4) Click on Game Check HELP Number, press continue
5) Next screen confirms Game Check HELP #, press continue
6) Enter name only, press continue
7) Next screen pops saying an error occurred, type Social Security in red box, press continue
8) Enter address and email, press continue
9) done

If you have the app on your phone you DO NOT need the paper harvest record. If all you have is an electronic copy of your license you DO need the paper harvest record.

All you need is harvest record. No numbers are required. If they kill a deer then you have 48 hours to figure out how to get the number and have it recorded...assuming that is their first deer since 2014-15 season.

Are you saying that if I have the app (which I do now) that I don't have to record the kill before I move the animal?
Because there is no harvest record in the app, only a link to report your harvest within 48 hours.

By the way I still cannot report my harvest with the android app. It keeps telling me to enter a valid email address.

You have to record the kill. After you have recorded the kill you can go to your profile page and pull up your harvest record. It shows each deer you've logged in with the confirmation number. Do you have the pocket ranger app?

Law states your license must be on your person while hunting. It does not state that it has to be in paper form. If you are in possession of the app and an electronic copy of your license that can be presented to an officer when asked, then you're ok.

Matt, I have the pocket ranger app. There is no harvest record on this app anywhere. There is no profile page that I can find, and I have searched everywhere in the app. I cannot use the app to report a harvest because it keeps telling me to enter a valid email address and I have entered the only email address I that I have. And it is a valid email address.
So as I stated earlier, I got a ticketed and paid a $100 fine because I had an app that didn't work and I didn't have a paper copy on me.
I won't make that mistake again.

I would tell you to call the license department tomorrow but it's a holiday. Guess you could try if they have a toll free number to a contractor. Best bet would be wait until Monday. I hate it's been such an issue. The droid app has been a headache.
