Well guys, this afternoon I had a pretty cool hunt. I had a fawn playing and jumping all around the field for about an hour while his mom ate. Then I had a lone doe come out and She offered a nice broadside shot, so I filled the freezer.

But about 30 minutes before dark I had a group of bucks come out, one of which was a big mature 6 pt. He was feeding when a 3 year old 8pt with a bigger rack came out to join them. Those two bucks bowed up on each other and I got to watch an all out brawl for about 2 solid minutes with 2 big bucks at about 50 yards. I’m talking about heavy breathing, grunting, and some LOUD crashes when they’d lock antlers. They were gettin after it. It was honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Just thought I’d share.

Very cool. I’ve never seen two bucks going at it in person.

Years ago when I use to guide duck hunters, we were sitting in the blind and we saw 2 bucks walking towards each other. A few seconds later they were in a full blown knock down drag out fight. I couldn't believe how violent it was. I guess it lasted a few minutes. Seamed like an hour. After they finish and chased each other outa sight we got out the blind and walked over to where they were. The marsh was totally plowed up where they were fighting. I had never seen that before and never saw it again. I wish I would had a camera phone back then.

I had two spikes get into it 10 yards in front of my stand one evening. One of them had 3” spikes on each side and the other had one 2” spike visible above the hairline. From the sound of it, you would have thought it was two Boone & Crockett 12pts. going at it. laugh

Many years ago I was on a bow hunt in Arkansas sitting on a big bean field with about 1 acre food plot next to the woods watching 20 or so deer feeding around, does, fawns and small bucks when a big 10pt 140ish strolls out and starts feeding. Little while later I look to my left and bout 50 yards standing at the edge was an easy 150-160 inch 4-5 yr old warrior those two bowed up at about 40-50 yards from me and had a knock down drag out fight. It sure was something to see. I never even reached for my bow, felt like I was front row to Ali-Frazier. Watching that and seeing their body language as they walked up on each other, I can still see those two facing off.

Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

That reminded me of the only deer I've heard in real life snort-wheeze and it was a spike.

That’s awesome. I’ve seen a few bucks over the years spar a little but never a knock down drag out.

Question is, did you learn anything?

When I was little my grandfather and I were sitting on a green field and two mature 8 points got into a knock out drag out fight. It went on for 5-10 minutes and it was so loud that one of our other hunters was on a green field a good ways off and could hear the fight from her shooting house. My grandfather had never seen a fight like that and I may never see it again. It was crazy

About 10 years ago I climbed up a tree about daybreak. I started hearing loud crashing and banging going on and it wouldn't stop. I never could see anything and it wasn't far behind me. After about an hour of it, I couldn't stand it. I climbed down quietly and put the sneak on. I slipped through the small point of planted pines and found two bucks locked up! They were both tired as hell! So I slip up
to brace on a tree, only about 50 yds away from them. I picked out what I thought was the biggest one and just as I was about to find them in the scope, they stumbled across a downed log and that separated them! They both wobbled on off. No shots from me. I was just in awe.

That I ain’t gonna ever try to wrangle one by the horns.
And that next time I need to climb about 30 yards to the east of where I was yesterday.

I've seen em 3 or 4 times when I was in Missouri from the stand. The worst fight I seen was in a ditch in Iowa headed back to hotel. Seen a giant standing in the road posturing and we stopped. About that time he jumped on another buck that was in the ditch. I got out of the truck and walked right up to them, coulda killed em with a knife. They are some violent animals when they get into it like that.

when Bankhead was bucks only during bow season, we saw several of those bruisers go at it on green fields. after they opened it to doe hunting, i guess the hunting pressure stopped most of it. at least on the fields anyway!!

It's cool to get to watch something like that up close and in person. Always make sure you watch around the perimeter of the fight for other bucks.
About 10 years ago I was in the stand and watched 2 absolute studs tie up at about 60 yards. They were going at it like they were in it for the kill. While I was watching them and hoping one would ease my way, a 100-110 inch 8 walks right up under my stand and is so intent on watching them he never noticed me 20 feet right above his nose. When the battle between the studs ended the winner chased the loser off and the one under me just trotted off behind them both. I took no shots but it was sure a good show.
