If there is a closed space behind the bearing then cut little pieces of soap and cram inside the bearing cavity. Us a punch to add more as it fill up. Once the cavity of full then the soap will force the bearing out.

Learned this trick changing a clutch and throw out bearing.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

i had the same problem with my 09 arctic cat prowler. wheel bearing was FUBAR and there was nothing left to press the outer race out with. took the knuckle off and took it and the new bearing to a local machine shop. They had it ready in about half an hour with the old race out and the new bearing pressed in.

$30 out the door and no headache of trying to get it out myself.

If I am interpreting this correctly it sounds like the race is still in the axle housing and he has no way to get anything behind it to knock it out. So, either grinding/cutting slots into the race to weaken it to the point of removal or taking the machine to some place that is equipped to do this are his only options.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Or as he said, “hitting it from behind”. The race, not the mule.

Take the spindle off and put a nut on the threads then drop it on the concrete. We have taken a many of bearings off shafts by just dropping them on concrete because you can't get behind it to pull it off.

After looking at a diagram at the dealer the shaft has to be removed for replacing the bearing. It needs a universal joint in it anyway so taking it apart and removing the shaft will give me a space to hit it from behind. It also has another bearing on the backside as well. It will have to be replaced to. The rear axle is one piece not independent suspension. Never easy.

I don't know about the bearing but he would loosen the rear main seal.

Reading the title of this thread I was wondering what my grand-dad would have thought if someone said this. I got a big smile just thinking of the look on his face.
