That’s why you range other objects around your stand beforehand. That way you can pick a spot out ahead of him and dial to it. I’ve been hunting with an adjustable single pin for over 12 years and it’s never cost me a shot. You also practice various yardages with it set on say 20 or 25 yards. It’s not that hard to kill a deer at 40 yards with it set on 25 yards.

I typically leave it on 25 and anything within 35-40 gets shot without moving it. this is what I do also.
