Do you have any access to private land with water. Preferably a swamp or flooded timber in Alabama. Not going to find any public ground around here fit for a rookie. Your gonna need to make friends with someone that can show you the ropes. Maybe join your local DU chapter. You could get a guide in the Mississippi Flyway some where to get your feet wet, but don't expect your bama hunts to be anything close to what they are over there. And practice calling in your truck, not in the field

You're a long way from me. If you ever make it down south, welcome to go shoot wood ducks with me.

My advice. .....never start duck hunting, put what you will end up spending on it in a 401K and retire wealthy.

The true mark of a man is not how he conducts himself during times of prosperity, but how he conducts himself during times of adversity.

I started a couple of years ago and man I didnt know what I was doing, but get out there and strike out because I learned quickly and started stacking up ducks. Do tou have a boat, if you do you just need to find creeks with beaver dams off a mojor river system and scout for Woodies early and late day. Start with Wood ducks and then go from there. I am sure you can bust some ducks this year.

Where you from Turkeyjoe. I do have a boat just a small flat bottom. I'm close to Smith lake but don't think there is many places there. I'll try Guntersville or Tennessee River I guess. I am looking into a guide form over around Mississippi, an I'm going to look up DU chapter to see where they are close to me. An thanks for the info.
