I don't usually believe much that I read on the Washington Post, but this seems like it is a real problem.

It is a huge issue, I get bombarded with stories and links to meetings about dicamba in several of these states. Big ole stink bomb.

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

That's why they're having to use new chemicals.

Soybean Field bordering my acreage at the house here in Baldwin county has been sprayed with Roundup 3x. Uncertain which pigweed it is, but pretty certain it is the spiny variety, is now about a foot taller than the mid thigh high beans. It is the only weed in the field. The 3rd spraying did little more than wilt the plants for about a week.
The farmer we lease from in the MS Delta told us in casual conversation that Dicamba had some serious issues with both resistance and drift. He was way more concerned with drift. A farmer can be responsible and spray under the best circumstances he said and 2-3 days later the chemical volatilizes and drifts to the neighbor. And as he said...it ain't good for neighborly relations.

Margins are so thin that going back to conventional tillage would be a back breaker I assume in most cases???

When used right dicamba technology is great. When used wrong. Disaster.

Landowner from ARK this week told me the state banned spraying Dicamba in mid summer. Did a litlle info search and he was right.

Maybe thru research they can get a better method of application. Maybe a heavy surfactant and something that is oil based that wouldn't vaporize as easily.

Gads, seems like a bit more studying is in order to get this right. Scary stuff!

It has nothing to do with th e product. We used 1000,s of gallons here with no issues at all. It's the dumbasses using it wrong and off label. They hurt their own selves.

Explain wrong and off-label for us lay people so we can understand it maybe. Not a pot stirring response by me just trying to understand an issue

Ok. It's complicated but I'll try to condense. The EPA put certain restrictions in place in order for us to use the chemistry. Not just any ole dicamba will work. Only xtendimax or engenia is labeled. These smartasses in Ark used generic or off label product, wrong tips, wrong wind, etc.

Was it true that In the first generations of RR Beans that you had use Monsanto RoundUp and not just a glyphosate knockoff or risk killing the crop or was that just the language in the agreement farmers had to sign to get seed?

If so, is this sort of along those lines...like spraying Cornerstone instead of RoundUp products?

And thanks for the info 257. FYI Where I hunt in the MS Delta as in lots of places crop rotation is merely a theory which can tend to add to the resistancy of the weeds to the chemicals. The foliage around some of these beanfields is deformed and hardwoods in all stages of dying and death in many places and in others everything appears good....which directly correlates with your info!
