Pointless to even try to argue when someone has preconceived notions. I went to Montevallo and do not know if I would have joined a fraternity at a large school. We were a bunch of "good ole boys" from cities like Clanton, Thorsby, Oneonta and Chickasaw. We excelled in the classroom and held many leadership positions on campus.
I will say this - coming out of High School and JUCU, I was very quiet and had never really spoken in public. One member said I had "leadership potential" and made sure that I got involved on campus. Would that have happened without the fraternity? I will never know. I do know that I became President of the fraternity, was held accountable academically, made some lifelong friends and met my wife, so I think it turned out ok and I never once thought of this as "buying" friends. Thanks to those who have served our country. Then them son of a guns ran it down and let the ATO's steal our house! What years were you there?
