It's amazing how broke some people think these big schools are. I've not ever once heard about a buy out being a determining factor in firing a coach. I am sure it gets discussed but I doubt it ever keeps a guy his job.

Richt should have been fired years before it happened. He was coaching against Derek Dooley, Zook, Muschamp, Vandy, Kentucky, Missouri, and South Carolina. He should have won the east every year.

Doubt it. Bielema saved his fat arse today. His buyout is 15 million. That ain't happening unless he loses out Bielema lost to A&M so I don't see how that helped him. Buyouts are rarely a deterrent for big programs. Without the Walton money, Arkansas ain't nothing. It's up to them if fatass stays or not. A lot of the Walton money goes to Missouri, fwiw Yup. Sam Walton and his brother Bud, the founders of Walmart, were both Mizzou grads. Pretty sure several of the children who all have $15B or so too. One of the daughters is on BOT I believe. Seems like her husband owns some pro teams maybe edit: Ann Walton Kronke, married to Stan. Owns the LA Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Arsenal FC Both U of Missouri grads

I think she actually graduated from Memphis State, though.

Kirby looks like he's doing okay to me Wait till he plays Alabama. The coaching is so bad everywhere else Kirby will probably do well enough to keep his job for a few years. I wouldn't have thought it until I saw how bad the rest of the league was. That's called crawfishing, Bill.

If I were a betting man and could get this parlay I think it would be a lock. All these SEC coaches will be gone by end of next season with many of them leaving this year.
Bielema Missouri coach (don't know his name) Butch Orgeron Gus Mcelwain Sumlin Stoops (for a better job)
I would have included Kirby on the list but the East , and really the whole SEC except Alabama, is so bad he will probably win the East the next two years and have decent seasons before getting beat 50-0 by Alabama in the championship games.
Reckon what kind of odds you could get on that 8 teamer?
Looking a little more likely , tonight. I'm tempted to think Sumlin might make it but I also remember his AD throwing down the gauntlet before the season and basically saying Sumlin was gone if he didn't drastically improve.

No way that eight coaches in the SEC get whacked in one year.
Orgeron saved his job today with Gus's debacle; going 7-5 or even 8-4 again and a chitty bowl might cost Gus his job but I doubt it.
Sumlin probably saved his job; he has a true freshman QB and looks to be getting things going.
McElwain will get another year at least.
Butch - gone. Barry Odom at Mizzou - gone. Dunno about Stoops at UK or the guy at Vandy.

Butch - gone. Barry Odom at Mizzou - gone. Dunno about Stoops at UK or the guy at Vandy. I agree all won't lose their job this year. That's why I said in my original post "by the end of next season". I don't see any way McElwain survives. I think the only two question marks are Sumlin and Orgeron. I still think they both crap the bed several more times and are gone by end of next season. The main deterrent is probably lack of good candidates. Which brings up another question. If you are one of the programs that know you are canning your coach, do you wait until seasons end to do it knowing your going to have several other programs looking for a new coach at that time, or do you do you go find your new coach now and give your current coach his walking papers mid season?

I’d fire em now. Maybe hire an interim but chase and ‘sign’ the hire now. Then say all the right things along the way. No way I'd hire an interem. I'm not firing anyone without having the new coach signed. That's how you wind up with an Orgeron.

I would be surprised if more than two on that list are gone at the end of this season. Butch most likely and maybe Odom if they can find another coach that will take that job. I was thinking Orgeron was as good as gone, but he will ride the auburn win for another year or so. Gus and Jacobs know where the bodies are buried. There are coaches on every team that could bring programs to their knees. Lance Thompson could take down Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and South Carolina if he ever started talking.

The best thing for Mizzou would be to get out of the SEC. Nobody would give a crap about their season or coach then. How they were chosen to be added to the SEC still baffles me.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

The first domino falls with McElwain. Look at my original list and tell me who will still be at their current job to start the 2019 season.
