Now Blade, you're thinking like an old man. You know today's kids are entitled to a great career and lots of fine trucks and boats and a lake house. I mean any company should be grateful that a kid would consider letting them provide him with experience and a paycheck to boot!
They were born, thats all the skill they need. They were given trophies just for participating, they're all awesome!

So much ignorance in one post...smdh

I never heard him ask for anything other than info on local engineers. It seems he wants to get to know the field he's going to WORK in. Some people are just asses.

It was an unfair generalization. But it fits a majority of yougins today. I was tasked with training several of them before I retired. Its one reason I decided to hang it up early.

My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

And who raised that generation? Your generation.

There's a song that said "if we're effed up you're to blame."

That sums up my feelings on the issue.

No argument there. It was my generation who thought up the idea of "participation Trophies".

Dammit man, you just made an unfair generalization.

I asked my question sincerely. I'm an owner of a fairly large engineering company and that would have been my first question in an interview with someone wanting to intern. Drafting/cad experience is always a good foot in the door for an engineering intern in a design firm. For firms that do a lot of inspections, people with construction experience and good common sense, can make a good intern. Asked it entirely to get ColeT thinking about how his skill set could benefit an engineering company.

Good luck. Civil engineering is a good field. I've been in it since 1985. Lots of opportunity. Our business specializes in structures more than pure civil.

There is a fair majority of people in your generation that are pieces of chit. Cole T is on here telling you that he is going to school and is looking for honest work so that he can build a career. Yet you feel the need to tell him that his generation feels entitled? sounds to me like he is working his but off to get what he wants. But hey what do I know I'm just an entitled 22 year old kid paying his on way through college.

Sorry for the rant ColeT good luck on your job search.

To answer your original question, ALDOT has good intern programs. Also, several federal agencies including the Federal Highway Administrative and FAA have summer intern programs for Civil Engineering students but most are for the summer after your junior year of engineering school.
