My boat is only a little over three years old. The boat is stored inside. The problem is the bunk boards. They are already rotten. I am guessing that pressure treated wood was not used. If I replaced the bunk boards with pressure treated wood wouldn't that last a long time? I am considering using PVC instead of wood. Any thoughts?

You should easily get over 10 years with pressure treated bunks. Use real marine bunk carpet and you'll be set.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I would use pressure treated wood but I would also treat them with several coats of copper naphthenate. I would cut to length and make sure I treated the ends very well.

You would also do well to get your lumber and store it in the dry,out of the sun for a month or two to let it dry before cutting and treating.

Go ahead and check the bunk brackets too. They are cheap to replace and easy while you have the boards off.

not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

Cypress bunks are really good if you can...

Cypress bunks, if you can get them, will last forever.

I wouldn't install pressure treated wood with carpet, the chemicals in pressure treated wood is thought to accelerate hull blisters in glass boats. Airport marine recommends untreated wood with carpet. Carpet isn't good for hull blisters either though, I replaced the carpet with gator bunks on my trailer.

If your boat is aluminum don't use pressure treated. The chemical they treat the wood with will corrode the aluminum down to nothing.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

Untreated with the hard plastic strips and make sure the bunks drain good when you pull them out. If they don't, adjust something. Like turn over a bowed piece of wood the other way or move a bracket up or down as needed. With the humidity here, just leaving carpet on bunks with a little downward bow will rot them right out.

If you can find a harder wood with less inclination to rot, you're better off.

just depends what chemicals are used. Cca will not give you any issue. Marine grade won't either.

What size and how many pieces of cypress would you need. I can probably get it, if you can figure out how to get it from Troy. It would be good if there was some Juniper (white cedar) available.

I would need 2 pieces of 2 x 4 x 10ft.

I'm going to replace mine with TruDeck. 100% recycled plastic. Expensive, but will never rot.

TC, thank you for your offer, but I think I will pass on the cypress.
I was thinking of getting an untreated 2 x 4 and painting it before putting the carpet on it.
