Depends. Scholarships are year to year if I'm not mistaken..

Depends. Scholarships are year to year if I'm not mistaken.. Unless you're Auburn and make a big deal out of offering "4 year scholarships".

So is he off the team but could return later if the team agrees to let him back on and he performs disciplinary/community work, or is he gone for good forever and ever?
Because if his scholarship hasn't been yanked, the first option is possible. Might not happen but it's possible.

wasn't this year his last year of eligibility anyways? He's been there forever including a redshirt year, I believe. If he doesn't get his degree this year, next year will be on his dime.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
