Something that drops way points as you walk. Or better, you can click a button every time you find blood and it will show points on a map if you need.

I use Gaia GPS. It's $20 for the full version but it was worth it. It's jut an app on my iPhone. Been dead on so far. Don't need service for it to work either

But I use it to mark my trail cams and all kinds of other crap too

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

"Well back in my day, we just dropped the deer right where it stood! Uphill!"
:P

There isn't anything wrong with using technology to help you. Sometimes people want to mark things on a GPS so they can come back later or revisit what happened. TP doesn't hold up so great in rain.

I use huntstand but never used the trailing function. It's great for marking boundaries, roads, fields, stands, etc. when the dozer guy was there, I just screen shot the map and said, this is what I want and where.

I use a GPS system when I track with dogs and I’ve found it to be a great tool to use. One of the best things about it is that it draws a line on the map showing everywhere we walk. It allows me to be able to really efficiently grid search if need be. I can look on the map and say “Ok we’ve searched all over this area but haven’t been in here…..etc..etc”….I can also look at my waypoints and see where I had last blood in relation to my current location and which way the deer was headed. Once you learn how to use it to aid you on your track then it makes the process much more efficient than the way we normally search. If you have the time you can use the GPS to methodically grid search back and forth across an area.

What, didn't you know deer are carrying smart phones now, you can send them a text to fall over near the truck.

Is this on your phone, or just a handheld gps?

Luckily I haven't tracked one more than ~30 yards in a long time, but I like to have every tool possible just in case someone makes a poor shot. I have a handheld GPS for this, but an app that would overlay a track on google map on a smart phone would be better than my old handheld GPS.

I use a handheld GPS due to the fact that I'm already running one anyways to keep up with the dogs running off lead. If you want one for your phone then check out Avenza Map App......

So far out of the free hunting apps, I like this one the best, the tracking part is easy to use.. It also has a part where you can click on a plot of land and it will tell you how many acres, who owns it along with giving you the GIS numbers.. shows the boundary's too which keeps me on our club and not on the neighbors land when I am chasing turkey's....

The end of democracy and the defeat of the American revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed incorporation's Thomas Jefferson. 1812
