I had a friends son that's never killed one go to the chicory field tonight. The kid I hunted with yesterday went and sat with him since I was at work. They got to the spot I told them to sit at 5:30. Elk started coming in field at 5:35 just as planned. The bull was bulging a lot across the river and finally came. They kinda sitting in a hole and his first attempt to shoot was at 32yds. He drew back shaking a little and the bow jumped forward. Talking to the other guy, he said he then jumped up on the bank and missed at 40 or 45 yds. Oh well. I been avoiding hunting there hoping someone would get their first bull but, not tonight.

What an experience to have though. He'll never forget that one.
I hope you get a good one soon especially with all the work you've put in for it.

That is my description of it, except the turkeys weight 800 lbs.

There's a good snow storm that went through Idaho/Montana area and maybe getting some in the mountain area of Washington where I'll be. Man I hope it's still there when I get there. I would love to chase elk and mulies around in the snow. Have the temps cooled down there Oregon to this point yet??

Cooled off, timberland opened today while I got to work. Rains coming in tomorrow for most of the week.

Don't care to hunt in the rain since elk often don't bleed a lot. I'm doing it anyway, it's the last week.

The place I'm hunting today includes a 4 mile drive thru state land to a locked timber co gate. Was at the gate at 0455. Didn't wanna be second. RAINS coming less than 4hrs after daylight so hoping to get on a bull quick.
Since I'm first in here, gonna hang close to gate until light. If peeps come, I'm rolling to the main spot I wanna hint. Just don't want to pass elk to get to elk.

Almost lite, no elk sounds where I'm waiting. Gonna be tough to stalk one as dry as it is...

Spot number 2 nothing. I'm running and gunning so could make for a tiring day but I'm trying to beat some of this rain.

Spot 3 cold calling in select cut, mitts. Decided to hop in timber and slip around to bike. Popped through a little tunnel on the trail and me and a spike staring at each other about 40 yds. 3 cows bounced up after a few minutes and they split.

Bone myself this afternoon. Weather was really crappy and windy so about 1:30 I came out drove to Coast Guard Exchange and got some fuel hit the Dairy Queen for some burgers with the intentions of relocating. Well since we couldn't Scout do the fire danger I just did my 3-mile Throwdown hunt and about 75% of the great Timber had been clear-cut I ain't seen Jack
