Was supposed to have a conference call at 8:30. Myself, another rep and our regional manager. The other dude is a no call no show.

Glad I'm not him unless he's got a really good explanation..

People complain all the time on here about work woes.

Figure some can relate that have conference calls.

I want to know who plans them for Fridays.

Calls before 9 a.m. - horrible, unless it's absolutely necessary or international

Calls on Fridays - do it between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. if possible.

Calls longer than 20-30 minutes - be prompt, get to the point, wrap it up

Calls just because you think one is needed for "the team" - No. People hate them. Have a point, a reason, be brief and specific.

They're a necessary evil but don't have to be soul-crushing terrible. Have worked at places where we had them and "everyone has to contribute" and it turned into a hellscape of agony no one wanted to be part of.

I love conference calls - have them often right after lunch, with my office door closed! whistle

It never ceases to amaze me how non-punctual folks are. But it's an easy way for the good guys to get ahead- show up on time/ 10 minutes early.

I schedule no calls before 0900 and none on Fridays and try to avoid Monday as well. Never know when the whitetail flu may rear it's ugly head...

Had one every Tuesday at 9:00 AM for years. Then new boss came on board and these ceased. New boss said he would rather we be in front of customers than yapping on phone beating our own chests for a couple of hours.

From there, we went to weekly activity reports which were really a pain.

In my 38 years in textiles sales I think I have seen it all in this regard.

I am the same way, unfortunately all of my clients are not...and a lot of them are east coast. Good thing is, it's all the same to me, b/c I'm billing for whatever time I spend on those calls.

Conference calls with customers are different.

Internal Conference calls are a waste of time IMO

I worked for a Fortune 500 company for 15 years. The National Sales Manager NEVER traveled with salesmen. He literally spent every day on a conference call. I had weekly two hour calls and Monthly 4 hour RUSH calls. AND THEY WONDERED WHY SALES WERE ON THE DECLINE.

There's only one reason bosses schedule Friday meetings/calls and that's to make sure folks don't cut out early. I had a boss that held a meeting every Friday and a 10 minute call every afternoon at about 15 minutes till 5:00.

Conference calls ain't chit. Wait till you have mandatory, monthly staff meetings. In Baton Rouge, LA. And you have to fly from Huntsville to Memphis to BR. Get there in the afternoon, meet u with rest of staff, BS for a while, go eat and check into hotel. Area Manager takes everybody to strip joint for night time entertainment. Area Manager is a WOMAN. Get up next morning, have breakfast, have staff meeting and fly back to Memphis............ and lose 2 full days of productivity back at my project. The Area Manager was fired somewhere along about the 10th staff meeting.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

We have weekly staff meetings every Monday and they are productive. We keep meetings to about an hour which is about the time people start to lose interest. We often have impromptu meetings during the week which last 5 10 to 15 minutes. These help keep everyone in track when we are working on multiple projects.

We have our suppliers do their webinars/conference calls on Fridays. Usually, we'll have about 2-3 webinars every Friday on new products, opportunities etc.

What really gripes my arse, are the folks that act like they've never been on a conference call.

-Forget to mute, so you hear their dogs, babies, conversations with their wives etc.
-Put you on hold and everyone hears elevator music

Stupid crap like that.
