No idea if this is a common thing or not, but a buddy's mom used to make them and they're awesome, so I've started making them.

very simple.

Box of saltines
1 packet ranch dressing mix
1 cup of vegetable oil
crushed red pepper to taste

Dump the crackers in a decent size tupperware tub (with a good lid). sprinkle the ranch dressing mix over them evenly. pour the vegetable oil over them as evenly as possible. sprinkle with crushed red pepper to taste. put the lid on and let them sit overnight, flipping the box periodically to let the oil settle and coat the crackers evenly, and shaking them up every once in a while.

like I said, maybe this is a common thing and I just didn't know it, but if you've never done it, give it a try. they're awesome.

Never had it in saltines but used to do oyster crackers that way. Delicious!!!

Might make some of these this weekend. Thanks!

We call them Fire Crackers. They are great in chili.
Add some garlic and ground cayenne and they are even better.

Yep Firecrackers, you left out a few things but you got the basics. Use keebler crackers. Let them set at least 2 days before eating them.

Yep definitely makes 'em better. The recipe I have uses oyster crackers and dill weed.

Yep, I was about to say I think I've had these before but they were called firecrackers. Good stuff.

These crackers are awesome just by themselves but using them with a chub of cracker size smoked bologna and hoop cheese is unbelievable. Between 4 of us at work we'll wipe out a box of crackers and 2 chubs in a 12 hr shift.

They are good. I've made them before. My aunt gave me the recipe but she called them dirty crackers. I've ate them at 82 West in Union Springs. I think that's where she got the name and recipe.
