It's always fun to squirrel hunt with a .22LR. Nice looking pistol you've got.

I got this second hand from my bro. Only thing I wish he'd bought green instead of red. But I've always liked this little pistol.

I grew up squirrel hunting and all we used was a 22 because my Dad said if you need a shotgun you don't need to be here. This should be a good challenge for you. Never seen anyone try it with a handgun before and I'd like to know how that goes for you.

I tried to hunt them with a .22LR handgun last year. Got humbled pretty quick. It's harder than one would initially beleive.
Back to the scoped rifle this season.

I think I'm going to have to let a few leaves get down. I'm thinking first week or 2 of November will be right.

I think I'm going to have to let a few leaves get down. I'm thinking first week or 2 of November will be right. I used to squirrel hunt a lot with a scoped Contender. I started out stalk hunting them back in the early 90s and found it fast it was a real challenge. I remember the first hunt I shot at 10 and killed 2. But I kept at it and got better. I killed 7 in a morning a couple of times, but never did get the last one for a limit. You are right on the time; I always started with a Veteran's Day hunt. One thing I learned to do that you might try was to always try to stop next to a tree. It's much easier to make a good shot if you brace yourself against a tree. And using a sapling for an improvised rest helps a lot too. I have always squirrel hunted by walking 10 or 12 steps, then stopping and looking for a limb shaking and then moving up again. If I spotted one, I always tried to move closer while he was moving. He would often see me if I moved while he was still. I got in the habit of looking for a rest for the gun as much as I looked for a squirrel. There's something satisfying about dropping one at 50 yards with a handgun. Later on when I started keeping squirrel dogs, I hunted almost exclusively with the Contender. You can get easy shots with a dog. I tried using a Ruger revolver, but soon decided the dogs deserved a better chance of getting the squirrel than I could give them with any gun with open sights. Good luck with it!

I've got a 2206 with a scope on it I setup for squirrel hunting when it was new. Very fun. Not many people small game hunt anymore and it is my personal belief that this is one of the major problems with people getting involved in hunting. In general. The problem with low hunter numbers isn't that they can't shoot every deer they see. It is that nobody introduces them to anything else and they don't or eventually give up sitting in a tree in the cold by themselves to maybe get a chance to see a deer.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

That's a purty shooting iron!
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
