Shop around. AR prices are the lowest that I've ever seen right now and you can find a lot of bargains.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Guy that works for me has the ruger AR and its a good shooting gun. I have a PSA that hasn't given a minutes trouble either. Both good guns that won't break the bank

My brother and Bil have rugers. Don't think it was the takedown. Neither would shoot steel ammo. And forward assist didn't work good. My bill replaced the boot carrier group and it solved both problems. Other than that they shot good. Probably common for alot of the entry level guns.

I bought one of Cole Blackmon's (Tactical Outfitters in Billingsley, AL) basic "service rifles" about a year and a half ago for under $600 out the door and that included swapping the safety out for an ambidextrous one (I'm a lefty). Nothing fancy but it's a great shooting rifle. I threw a bushnesll trs25 and some flip-up BUIS on it and couldn't be happier. I have less than $700 invested in it, total. Eventually, I'll swap out the quad rail for a slimmer/lighter keymod handguard, but I'm in no hurry.

There are 3 certainties in an uncertain world:
1. All Politicians Are Liars 2. All Gun Laws Are an Infringement 3. Taxation Is Theft

A couple of years ago you couldn't build one for 500 being patient and waiting on sales.

The SR 556 is a very nice piston driven "AR type" rifle but if it were me I would stay with the standard AR rifle platform and save some $ but I would shy away from the Ruger AR 556 - Anybody that would use a plastic delta ring (ring that holds the hand guards on) on an AR is cutting corners pretty hard. I really like Del-ton.

If I was just looking for one to play with or put in the safe, then I'd pickup a Smith & Wesson M&P Sport II. They can be found for under $500.
Sig Sauer, to hell and back reliable.
Whatever suits you just tickles me plum to death.
Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?
