Snuck out for a couple hours tonight after work. A lot of bait activity on the other edge of the grass. I threw a spinnerbait, a Whopper Plopper, a frog, a swimming worm, nothing. Moved to another grass bed. Even more activity. Started throwing a shad colored unweighted Senko-like plastic. Y'all know I'm still learning how to fish unweighted plastics. I got bit 6 times before I finally stuck one. Had figured it out and the dang wind came up and wrecked what I had going. Ran to a sheltered sea wall and caught one more. These were 12-inch dinks. Couple of the ones I turned but didn't stick felt bigger. I liked this technique. Do you ever catch big fish on it? What I learned is you've got to really set the hook. Gonna change the mono that's on there to copolymer and see if that helps a little with the hook set. It was a very pleasant evening weather wise. Can't wait to throw this some more.

When the wind kicks up go back to the spinnybait. Copolymer probably will help. You may not feel the bite and just will see the line moving, or they may knock the chit out of it. I've had both. I use an Owner 2 wacky hook and 5-inch Dinger or Senko. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Wacky_Hook/descpage-OWNWHH.htmlAlso have used an offset hook but it snags more when wacky. I like throwing the offset with a white 4-inch unweighted tube.

I was Texas rigged with hook skinned through back. I believe it was 3/0 EWG hook. It would just kind of get heavy.

I'm always amazed at how a fish can suck in a bait, including crankbaits, or knock the crap out of them and then spit them out or not get hooked.

Try not setting the hook till they move off. Make sure you reel some of the slack off. Set the hook to the side instead of up. Think about it. You can sweep sideways for 6 ft, up you can only get about 3 ft setting it up. Carolina rigs need to be swept too. Fish seldom blow lures out unless they feel you, a senko type bait is usually loaded with salt and they won't blow it out.

Those are great tips. Thanks. I'm gonna throw this thing some into the fall and see what happens. Retrieve I was using I guess you'd use on a jerk bait or fluke. I'd let it sink a few seconds then kinda jerk it towards me, let it sit a few seconds and repeat. I tell y'all what. There's a learning curve to this bass fishing and I feel like an infant.
