Other thread got me to thinking, I have seen less banded water snakes this year than in past. Had one last Thursday about 4' long come swimming by me. Those colors are beautiful. NO, forgot to get pic.

We said the same thing recently... where are all the snakes this year??? I haven't seen hardly any kinds of snakes anywhere.

haleyville al,
I saw a bunch earlier this year. Haven't seen many last couple of trips. I had several in a group swimming in font of my boat. All of them where about 10in. Long. When they got about halfway across the pocket the bass started nailing them. No survivors that I noticed. It's was cool to watch. I had never seen snakes get busted like that.

This has been a strange snake year. I saw a large snake on 5 mile creek earlier this year. I ran over a huge water moccasin in a subdivision (by a lake) one night. It was huge, and I wanted to be sure it was dead, considering it was 10 feet from someone's front door.
A veterinarian mentioned that several animals had been brought in with snake bites about a month ago.
Shelby County has plenty of snakes from what I can see!
I can't tell the difference between a banded water snake and a moccasin. Maybe it's the word SNAKE that confuses me.

Don't know about water snakes, but I about stepped on a LONG Black Racer at the club the other day. Pretty snake, and I know he wasn't poisonous but dang that suck made my heart race when he took off.
