Anyone checked on prices yet for this year? Is anything jacked up ($$$) due to shortages?

3, 5 & 6 way mixes down in price from last year in our area.
Fertilizers are down a little in price here as well.
The rye grasses (Marshall, Gulf, Passerel) are priced out the roof due to a shortage I'm told.
That will affect the cattle farmers more so than the deer plot planters.

How are the clover prices?? I know they have varied a lot over the last few years. Crimson was jacked up a couple years ago.

I like the looks of that best seller deer magnet mix for bigger plots....lotta good stuff in there. I think I’d want to add another 50 lbs of cereal grain per acre though.

I used deer magnet last year and it did great. The only thing I’d point out about a mix like that is that it has a lot of “sweeteners” added to it. Those are added in small amounts which doesn’t really translate to much total forage from each one of those plants on say a ¼ or ½ acre plot. For instance, the winter peas and radishes may be non-existent after the initial sprouting. They’ll be so few of them that they’ll likely be wiped out early….leaving you with just 40 lbs/ac of grains when late winter rolls around. On a small plot I’d rather just go heavy on the cereal grains to the tune of 100-150 lbs/ac with maybe an added clover and try to grow the most tonnage possible versus trying to be fancy....JMO

I don't think you will have a good result mixing the small seed stuff like clover and radishes with your oats and wheat that you most likely will disc in.. What about top sewing it before rain? I know the Winter Peas wouldn't work well, but I have had no problem getting larger grain to germinate and thrive

I buy my seed for my two plots at home at Riverside. I also buy our HC seed/fertilizer there. They usually have competitive pricing. I plant one plot of the WMS Alabama Blend and one plot of the WMS Deer Magnet here at my place. They both seem to do well. Jim Lavender, that is an owner of Riverside, is a good man.

I plan on using wms blends this year instead of mixing my own. With the different seeds in the mix, do y'all drag it at all?

We just drag it. No disking in the seed. Deer magnet is great, but a little short planting an acre. Add 20 to 30 lbs of grain to make up for the slack coverage.
