I've followed politics closely since college. Not just the news, but lots of study on issues. I can honestly say I have never been more disgusted by DC than now. I'm a conservative Christian in my outlook and beliefs...falter at times...but that is what I pursue and strive for. There are only a handful of like minded people in DC it appears. The GOP is adrift and has been taken over by Progressives. The DNC has been corrupted and Progressive for years and years.
Politics has always had some corruption and self-serving. However, our nation as we knew it is gone. The very core fabric of the nation is torn. From what I can see, there is no returning to the foundational core principles that our nation was founded upon.
I'm normally not a pessimistic person. But I am done with it.
Sorry, had to vent.

I used to keep up with it quite a bit after I reached voting age and through college and even a little after college, but I found myself in the same situation you're describing.
I noticed that I'd become really jaded. Every time I turned the news on, or read political articles, I would get in a bad mood, pissed off, pessimistic, whatever.....over things that I largely had ZERO control over.
I decided that I was done. I was done letting things mostly out of my control have so much control over my life and attitude. I now rarely watch national news because it is 99% politics, and it's not even "news" as much as 2 different sides trying to yell over one another. I still pay a moderate amount of attention to stuff at the local level since it's more likely to affect my day-to-day life and I can be a little more proactive in it, but that's about it.
Trump...Hillary...Republicans...Democrats...Conservatives...Liberals...
all just two sides of the same coin. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss".
Phil Robertson (Duck Commander) said once "I'm gonna fear God, love my neighbor, and hunt ducks. And we'll let the chips fall where they may."
that's pretty much the attitude I've adopted.
There are 3 certainties in an uncertain world:
1. All Politicians Are Liars 2. All Gun Laws Are an Infringement 3. Taxation Is Theft

Sorry, had to vent. One of the problems are,, it's not the will of the people that's being served. Take a break ,,that's what I do,, it's too easy to feel overcome by it all especially when the only thing we can do is voice our displeasure and vote for the next fellow.

While everyone was watching the chitshow yesterday, the House passed a bill that funds $1.6 billion for the wall, and we never heard a word about it from a single Dem. I'm not saying that the drama is planned on purpose, but the drama is planned on purpose. Chitstorm yetserday, and at the same time, 12 Republican Congressmen sent a request to Jeff Sessions requesting a second Special Council to investigate a very specific list of unsettled business about Hillary, Comey, and friends. Haven't heard a word about it from the Dems.
So remember, the drama is not planned.

I haven't given up on the constitution or the country. I've given up on hope that the Republican party will ever get back to constitutional conservatism. I've given up hope on voters having something to vote for in either party instead of simply being scared into voting against the other party. Even when given the rare opportunity they waste it. On the flip side I'm much more hopeful and happier since I realized politicians don't have the ultimate say in my or my family's life. I'll still support the individual candidates that reflect my core beliefs but I won't ever give another penny to the Republican Party and I won't waste time thinking they will ever change. I'll still pray that our representatives be given wisdom and guidance and that they turn from being self serving to being the servants they are supposed to be. I prayed the same for Obama and our other officials and I'll do the same for Trump and the current administration. I'm just not under the illusion they will ever change unless God intervenes.

I'm right there with you Mike. I thought today that I absolutely can't put into words how I see OUR government now days.

That is EXACTLY what the media and democrats want. Never give up. Keep fighting.
I'll continue to grow in my relationship with Christ, teach my children, influence those in my life, vote for deserving candidates, and share the gospel...but I'm done following the political mess and media coverage. It's all "bread and circuses". I'm moving my fight and energy into a different place. Bill, I agree. Unless the Lord intervenes and brings a great spiritual awakening on the land, then nothing will fix the American Politic.

24-hour news channels are propagating the division that is leading to the downfall of our country.
Never have we been more divided, and often times those divided don't even know why they are. Don't even have to look that far. Look here. Many here see liberals as brainless satanists, instead they should view them as an opportunity to win over.

You will never win liberals to your point of view by calling them names and insults. Does a business owner hurl insults at the customer base?
But maybe the idea of respect and kindness is too far lost in politics. Most liberals are not interested in having a conversation about controversial subject matter. They automatically revert to calling anyone who disagrees a racist, homophobe, xenophobe, etc.
