TV was on "how its made" yesterday. Kinda background noise. They had a show about a company that hand makes high-end rifles/shotguns in England. The guy said that it takes 1250 hrs to make a rifle. They were using smut (from a flames) an hand files to ensure proper fit of parts, etc. I am sure a lot of time went into engraving, art work.

I was just thinking of how long it took to make muskets, etc in the past. When did they start making shotguns, muskets, & rifles efficiently?

Well I'd think the efficient part came in during the industrial age though there were a lot of muskets and Pennsylvania rifles during the revolutionary war.

I read about a sharpshooter's rifle during the civil war cost $5,000 at the time. I can't remember the maker, but it was made in London and shot octagonal bullets. Pretty interesting.

Beautiful work, true art
