I know Indy is a BIG place with a LOT of seats; but there are a LOT of empty seats. Even on the front straight, start/finish line.

Yep. Be even less when Jr retires. I still watch some but not like I used to. Going down hill pretty quick.

NASCAR is definitely on the decline but Indy is a boring race too. Other than the history of the track I don't see why anyone would go to a race there.

Respectfully disagree on Indy 500; great race this year. But, each to his own.

I came to the sports forum to comment on the attendance and saw this thread. I do NOT watch NASCAR so I don't know what the attendance should be. I was just trying to catch the local weather but believe I've seen more people at a tractor pull. How can sponsors continue to justify the $$$?

Hell Bristol can't even sell out anymore.

I remember when there was a 10 year waiting list on tickets.

Nascar was lost to the almighty dollar...It was great when country boys actually drove the sport with their knowledge.

New Nascar drinking game; every time there's a re-start, have a shot; last guy to pass out is winner and does not have to watch next week.

I saw a commercial the other day on some network where some NASCAR drivers were talking about how feuds and fighting and fussin' was what helped make it great, and how they think it's getting back to that.

1. What a load of bullchit. Anytime any of them say anything that's not PC or pisses off someone or gets into a finger-pointing bitch-slapping match with 49 other pit members, NASCAR "lowers the boom!" on them.

2. Once this group of Jimmy Johnson, Ryan Newman, the Busch brothers, Junior and all are gone, NASCAR will see IMO a big decline in attendance. That's not too far away, either. These guys don't have to race into their 50s or own teams or anything to make money like back in the day. They could retire, go fishing, make some appearances and be done with it.


I haven't been to a race in years or looked at attendance but if Bristol isn't selling out then that's pretty telling.

They had mercy on the fans and held the caution till Hamlin got to the overtime line. Racing???

I agree. I used to watch it, but I haven't watched a race in several years.
