My 6yr old buried a treble hook above my eyebrow yesterday evening. He's safely thrown weedless lures for several years and has progressed to open hooks with close supervision. Yesterday I upgraded his 4-4.5' pole to a beefier 5.5' M action rod to help setting the hook in bigger fish. We pulled to our 5-6th spot and I dropped the trolling motor and grabbed a rod, went to make a cast and BAM! A rooster tail is dangling over my eye. I cut some braid and tied the best knot I could with out the luxury of seeing the hook, the braided line, or my fingers. I gave him instructions to keep slack in the line and then snap it HARD! He gave 2 tugs but it didn't budge. I "thought" we would go back to the beeswax ramp and get it resolved in a snap. I asked 8-10 guys for assistance and no one would touch it. I was shocked that no one knew how to use fishing line to remove a hook! I was also shocked that guys thought that pushing the barb through was the best way to remove it! If I could see the lure than I could've removed the split ring, tied the knot, and found some one to give it a yank. I made a few phone calls and the guys at the local fire hall said to swing by. Worn out 40lb braid just broke, fresh 65lb and the hook poped right out like I knew it would. I'd post a pic if I could.
Everyone that fishes should know the braided line trick! If not to help yourself then to help those around you!

Caught 2 rattle traps one in the top of the head and another in the chest both times watchin daddy cast on stripe runnin shad the other me an my dad an my best friend wer fishin an me an daddy wer throwin texas rigs an my buddy was oneah them kind that even if he could just throw one thing and catch fish hed tie on everything in his tackle box just to see what happened. So he decided hed throw a big 20+ bomber an the second throw he he hooked my calf an yanked my legs out from under me. Daddy pushed the hooks through on all of them but that big crank bait... He had to cut the hooks off the body then pushem through, i remember grindin my teethe so hard i thought i was gonna break my jaw.

uhmph ... I love to let my daughters (~16 y.o.) fish with poppers, but ... I stand pretty far away from them LOL ... So far, they & I haven't been snagged, but I expect it one day ...

Younger brother hooked me right in the ear lobe on his back cast with a zara spook. I was 19 and he was 17. I told him I was going to beat his A-- and started toward the back of the boat. He quickly reeled tight on me and told me "dont make me set the hook on you". I got smart real quick. We were fishing the marsh in Louisiana and when I got back home to FL from the trip, my dad saw the hole in my ear lobe (looked just like it had been pierced) and told me if he ever saw an earring in that hole he'd rip it out and beat my A--.

My uncles used to tell a similar story. One caught the other in middle of back with a spinner. Every time the hooked one went for the other, he'd tighten up on the reel. It was hilarious to have them telling it together.
