I had 2 acres of the prettiest Eagle Big Fellow RR soybeans . They were about 10-12" tall when I sprayed them with Cornerstone Plus.(2oz to the gallon) , When I came back a week later everything was DEAD. Anyone ever experience this???? I thought Eagle beans where dummy proof... any idea what I did wrong?

I have used regular cornerstone for the last few years with no problems. Could it be the PLUS?

Does it have something else in it?

How many gallons did you spray on the fields? It's important to know the ounces of herbicide per acre in most cases. Do Eagle beans have a label with herbicide recommendations?

Just curious, since they are roundup ready, why did you use cornerstone? Did you plant something else with it. I've sprayed peas in my garden with something labeled for peas mixed a little stronger than recommended and killed em dead

But the key is how much of that 22 gallons was gly? The amount of water doesn't make much difference.

Those generic glyphosates are all formulated a little different. Any of them will work for burning down deer plots, but some of them are not meant for certain crops. I had a chart that showed which brands were suitable for various crops, but I'm not sure where it is. As I remember, Cornerstone is not one of the better formulations for crops.

All this is from memory and could be wrong. Might just be a simple overdose, but I'm sorry for you whatever the case. It's a bad feeling to ruin a crop.

Edit- sorry, I missed you saying it was 2 oz per gallon. That doesn't sound like too much. Gonna need one of the Ag experts on here to answer this one.

That's less than a 2% mixture. Recommendations are typically 2.5% mixture. I will safely spray beans hot with a 3-4% mixture if there's a lot of nut grass. Either there was left over chemical residue in your sprayer of a different herbicide, your beans were not round up ready or something else. The mixture you made though was on the low end if anything.

I agree, I purposely mixed it weak... I'm bumfuzzled about it... I've never had anything in my sprayer except Poast Plus and Glyphosate

I do 40 ounces to 25 gal of water and never had that happen....I run as close to 6 mph as I can that just puts a good mist on things and the 25 gal sprayer does right about 3 1/2 acres. I think I'm on the light side of application but it works so far.

I think you were given the wrong seed. If they were truly a RR variety, Cornerstone would have had no effect on them. Either that or you had some residue in your tank from something else.

Did they turn yellow and die or did they curl up like they were growing in circles and die?

Have you sprayed any other herbicides out of your sprayer previously

When I came back there was pretty much nothing there, so I can't say if they turned yellow or not..

Only thing previously was Poast Plus but a tank of gly had been ran through there before I sprayed the beans..

You can spray 5x rate of gly on RR beans and not hurt them. Cuz I'm afraid you had something in your sprayer or something else wrong.

I've seen deer wipe them out like that. They prefer soybeans over peas.

I would call recommend calling Eagle Seed and ask if anyone else has had the same problem. Sounds like wrong seed if you can rule out issues with what was previously in the sprayer. Calling them might at least help solve the mystery. I've had good customer service with them in the past.

I've never planted peas; however, thought I have read they won't touch them until a certain point, but will take them out quickly once they reach a,certain stage.

I agree with this statement. Something wasn't right. Might have been the seed or something else wrong with the spray mix. 22 gallons at 2oz/gallon is not too much. When spraying 11 gallons per acre.

If you only had 2 acres of soybeans, I feel the deer may have wiped them out. That's not enough acreage to produce beans with deer around.

Did you actually go out into the field and look at the ground for stubs of the beans? Or did you see the plant wilted and yellow/brown?

I tried a 1.5 acre patch and got it looking good, and the deer came in and started at the ends of the rows, and chomped them down to the dirt like a vaccuum cleaner going down the rows. In 4-5 days! laugh

I knew better, but had to try again. That was an expensive waste.

I'm on my 2nd planting of 2 acres of beans. First planting was demolished once the beans got 4 to 5 inches tall. I used my planter the first time and they simply went down each row. The second time I mixed in 50 pounds of WMS Pea Patch and 100 pounds of Ag beans. I broadcast this planting to ensure I would have a thicker stand. It's well on its way to failure also. I didn't think I had very many deer on my home place but I'm quickly realizing other wise. There are 10 to 12 deer in this field every day at multiple and various times. They are working the field over hard.

If you came back a week after spraying Gly and they were gone, the deer ate them. I cannot even usually tell Gly is working in a week. Plus, if they were 12" tall the stems would still be standing tall. I had them pick every Sunflower out of 2 acres in less than a week last year.

Do you have a bag or a ticket where you bought the seed? They should replace the seed or refund the money at the least.

I looked for the chart I had; it was actually just a link to an article put out by NC State, but it was several years old and they had taken it down. But even if Cornerstone isn't ideal, I don't think it would have killed any RR crop at the rate you used. If you didn't take pics, I guess it will remain a mystery.

I'd be calling the company. Those seeds are expensive.

Okay, with that info added I'm going with deer ate them. One week after spraying Glyphosate at any normal concentration would not have yielded nothing left in the field.

I sprayed my garden spot mid week last week with 2 quarts of name brand Roundup PowerMax in a 15 gallon sprayer. Six days later, there's some sure enough sick looking nutgrass and morning glorys out there, but they're yellow, not gone.

One reason I don't think it was the deer is because there is a perfect line of dead ground and a spoke of iron and clay peas buckwheat mix... it was pretty when I spray the beans and are still thriving ... and the lack of tracks in the field .....I want to say it was the beans but the invoice clearly said Eagle Big Fellow RR beans

Them disappearing in a week says deer did it. I've sprayed thousands of gallons of roundup at all different rates and never had a kill like that in that amount of time.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Ol'timers never used chemicals and would re-plant prior to next rain to get good stand. Not solving this problem though.

I don't have any science to back this up, but when I was planting soybeans for deer, they really jumped on them right after I sprayed RU. I think once the weeds and grass started to wilt, they could pick the bean leaves out easier without getting a mouthful of junk with them.
