United States Steel Corp., formerly Tennessee Coal and Iron, owns most of the land in south and west Jefferson County, and plenty of land in Shelby, Bibb, Walker and Tuscaloosa Counties.
They own land that was leased for WMAs. The WJPHA is now part of an even larger area of land in western Jefferson County that is leased to private leaseholers thru Molpus Timberlands Management:
Cahaba WMA 40,504 acres Mulberry Fork WmA 35,260 acres
West Jefferson Public Hunting Area 44,000 (est.) acres (now private leases)
Western Jefferson/ Tuscaloosa (private) unknown (thousands)

I hunted a place in Brewton this past turkey season that was over 40k acres privately owned. I believe it was owned by the Miller family. Really overwhelming to hunt!

That's correct. We stayed at another camp and had to drive to the main camp. Took 25 mins all dirt roads and all their property. The map they gave us was crazy, each hunter got 500 acres to hunt.

It was/is an amazing place to hunt. Hunt??? You could knock them in the head with a stick!!!! That is the truth. Last time I hunted there I shot a 170lbs 9 point that was chasing 29 does. They all came busting out of a creek together with him on their heels

The Webb's own about 2/3 of Perry County.
Mary Catherine Avery, (she was a Webb) owns about 45,000 herself and her husband Judge Avery owns about 12,000. Both in Perry County.

Are yall talking contiguous blocks?
Scotch is privately owned and I'll bet can rival any other private landowner in Alabama for the largest land ownership in a county. Yep!
retired 6 Saturdays and one Sunday
I am lucky, I don't have as far to go as I have been!

How much does Forrest ingrams family own? I've never heard a firm number on Ingams land holdings but I have heard rumors it tops 100K acres. Who knows.
