When the snakes are still crawling, Lacrosse rubber snakeboots. After they stop crawling, insulated Lacrosse rubber boots. I hunt areas that has a good bit of water. I can walk miles in them with no problems. If I didn't hunt wet areas, I would wear lace up boots.

I know nothing about public land around Birmingham. I'm staying on my lease from last year, which has a stream running through the middle of it. I had to cross it most days I hunted. My worry is that I have to hike a long way after that stream. I feel like rubber boots would make my feet sweat so much.

For as long as I remember (probably the past 25 years) I've worn rubber boots. Two or three years ago I decided to get a pair of lightweight leather boots again, so I bought some Danners (I bought the High Ground). I do still keep a pair of rubber boots, but nowadays I'm probably 70/30 leather to rubber.

My Lacrosse AlphaBurly 1000's (I think, maybe 1200) have served me well for 5 or 6 years now. Very comfortable, very warm with a single pair of good socks, even down into single digits and low teens. Yet, somehow, not excessively hot when the weather warms up into the 50's. Only negative I've found is they are a little heavy. If it's any warmer than that, I wear my snake boots - Lacrosse pull-ons. I think they're called "Lacrosse Adders" or something like that. They've started leaking a small amount but it took 3 or 4 years for the leak to develop.

Mix of Rubber and Lace Up. Rubber is good for scent control if you only wear them in the woods. If you pump gas in them it doesn't matter.
I usually do 1200 Rubber Boots when cold on the stand. Danner Elk hunters when walking or mild.
I don't wear any of my hunting boots until I start walking to the stand.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Rocky lace up snake boots while Mr no shoulders is out and about. Lacrosse rubber boots after that.

If you have blister-rubbing issues then the boots are the wrong size.
You can alleviate that by either getting the right size or by possibly adding insoles (like Dr. Sholes) to make the fit tighter and possibly negate the rubbing. I had to do this with some that are a size larger than I need and it works. I use the SofSole insoles on top of a regular over-the-counter brand and it's just enough with my socks to make things better.

Lacrosse Coil Zip-up #425625....waterproof, snakeproof, briarproof, lightweight, barbwire resistant, athletic sole instead of boot lug, AND discontinued. If you look around you can still find them for around $150.
